Catholic Mass goes hi-tech on the iPad

by Sara Levy

Catholic priests will soon be able to discard their missal in favour of an iPad.

A new iPad app developed by an Italian priest and endorsed by the Vatican contains the complete Catholic missal, detailing every word spoken or sung at Mass during the liturgical year.

Technology-savvy priests will be able to download the app in English, French, Spanish, Italian and Latin from July.

The app was developed by the Rev Paolo Padrini, a communications consultant at the Vatican.

Padrini previously developed iBreviary, an iPhone app containing the book of daily prayers, which has so far been downloaded by 200,000 people.

The Vatican has praised the iBreviary as a novel way of evangelising.
