Cameron: Gaza is a “prison camp”

by Sara Levy

David Cameron issued a harsh critique of Israel’s blockade of Gaza today, calling the Palestinian territory a “prison camp”.

Speaking to a group of Turkish businessman in Ankara, the Prime Minister, who describes himself as a “friend of Israel”, said the situation in Gaza “has to change.”

“Humanitarian goods and people must flow in both directions,” he said.

“Gaza cannot and must not be allowed to remain a prison camp.”

Cameron also condemned Israel’s attack on the Turkish aid flotilla to Gaza as “completely unacceptable”.

“I have told prime minister [Benjamin] Netanyahu we will expect the Israeli inquiry to be swift, transparent and rigorous,” he said.

The Prime Minister made the speech as part of his four day visit to Turkey and India.
