Wikileaks: British Muslim students would kill for Islam

by Jan Harris

Wikileaks, the controversial organisation which publishes leaked government and corporate documents, has published a US diplomatic cable from January 2009 revealing that 33 per cent of British Muslim students believed that killing for Islam was justified and 40 per cent wanted Sharia law.

The revelation came from a survey of 600 Muslim students at 30 British universities carried out by the Centre for Social Cohesion.

The result of the survey was seen as an indication of the growing radicalisation among the young Muslim population in Britain, causing alarm bells to ring in the US and leading to plans for an outreach programme to help avert the possible growth of ‘violent extremism’ in the UK.

A US cable dated February 5 2009 said that reaching out to the Muslim community in Britain was a ‘top priority’ for US embassy staff.
