Terry Jones finally carries out Koran burning threat

by Jan Harris

Florida pastor Terry Jones oversaw the burning of a copy of the Koran at the Dove World Outreach Centre in Gainsville on 20th March, an act he initially threatened to carry out to mark the anniversary of the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Centre in New York.

The act has inflamed the already tense relationship between Muslims and Christians worldwide.

The book burning was carried out at a ceremony attended by only 30 people but a video of the event was published on YouTube to gain maximum publicity.

The ceremony included putting the Koran on trial for crimes against humanity, with the ‘case’ argued by a prosecutor and defender.

Inevitably the book was found guilty and was sentenced to death by execution, after which it was set alight by Pastor Wayne Sap.

The act was called “a recruitment bonanza for al-Qa’ida” by President Obama and was condemned by President Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan who demanded a response from the United Nations and Washington.
