If you convert to Hinduism what cast would you be?

"It's a complicated question. In India, caste is more social than religious, at least these days, and you see caste in both Christian and Muslim populations, although leaders will deny it. Originally it was called varna, and was intended to separate people by their natural inclinations, just as...

If you convert to Hinduism what cast would you be?

You live in Fiji? What is/was your nationality? Our good friends(old neighbors) are a couple - the guy is a Yank and the wife is a Hindu from Fiji....

If you convert to Hinduism what cast would you be?

Apparently, after looking deeper, I've found that by default, you'd be a Dalit, but on rare occasions marriage facilitates a proxy cast i.e. the convert could get the families cast but of course often it is not done as families would fight tooth and nail...the other option is name change and in...

If you convert to Hinduism what cast would you be?

As you know manu created four types of people the Hindu society falls into. If you are a Muslim (Indian) and wanted to convert what cast would you fall into? P.S. I know the cast system is kinda banned(?) but still widely practiced especially in rural areas.

    What are modern religions?

I think you got it... As for me I'd guess I just do not like regurgitated stuff for us dumb western folk (who could not possibly understand the intricacies and nuances of those fancy Eastern religions) with their fancy Sanskrit words....

Fire... what is it to your belief?

Fire is very mystical...the very first Yoga I was taught was Agni Yoga. My former teacher explained that Agni is Sanskrit for fire. The burning bush representing God is very symbolic and powerful as fire just appears seemingly out of nowhere (well, we know that it is a chemical reaction of...

    What are modern religions?

ACIM (a course in miracle) is very new (Written from 1965 to 1972), it is non-dualistic but mixes Jesus and the Holy spirit into the mix, which was a telltale for me to avoid. The book (acim) has some amazingly powerful writing, but putting the whole thing into context not enough for me to be a...

    Yoga versus Tantra

Just as a side note; being a vegetarian in India is markedly easier, than for example in the US or Europe where meat is cheap and available while vegetarian dishes are harder to find. Vegetarian restaurants are available in California but many of them are expensive and not too good.

How many of Jesus' original followers (the 12) were family men?

I know that the Buddha had a family (wife and a son), now I am wondering how many of the original "fisher" of men were family men themselves? When embarking on a spiritual path, one either leaves the family or one stays and tries to satisfy both responsibilities. Many of the hippy era (60's)...

    Yoga versus Tantra

Some of the traditional non-duality schools (I call them old schools) have tenets that are of cultivating ones karmic balance, purifying the body with absenteeism from meat, sex etc. Now, all these are very hard to do, especially when after close examination the law of karma is not an absolute...

    Yoga versus Tantra

OK. Lets take the words of Yoga and Tantra out of this whole discussion. Words are just words and I do not care of their intricacies. Basically, the approach of enlightenment has a two pronged approach (whereby both works) if done right and with conscious effort. denying the world embracing...
