    The purpose of Religion?

There is a difference between the purpose of religion, and the benefits of religion. Some people seem to be answering one with the other. I would say that inner peace, justice, etc are all benefits of religion but Im not sure they would be considered to be the purpose it existed.

    What if....

Personally I try to avoid any religion where this makes a difference. IMHO a religion should have definate benefits either way. And any religion with a "we are right and they are wrong" viewpoint tends to turn me off. Somehow I just dont see God operating that way. To gamble everything in a...

    Challenge - Prove it!!

He is but as a reference to a god for the dimension of chaos he was the best example I could come up with. I didnt want to limit to something like Satan, particularly seeming to place it higher than the 10th reference

    New Planets

Originally they could only discover really big planets (like jupiter) and I think they ar up to something like 175 found. But lately they discovered the first system which appears to have planets like ours in the correct orbit to be ABLE to support life as we know it. The method used is going to...

    Play the News

Interesting. Ive worked for a number of game companies and get involved in beta's all the time. I was about to post on a game that I thought people here might be interested in also. Definetly bump when this goes public please. (do they have a distributor yet? Im guessing they do)

What Movies Have You Seen Recently?

Idiocracy I highly recommend that any thinking person rent this movie. Its a lowgrade B comedy but it makes some points that should not be forgotten abut the dumbing down of our future. At least the very beginning of it puts the concept into very clear perspective. Its a nice popcorn-night way...

What would you say to God?

Thank you. Now what? (should I stand in that line over there?)

    Challenge - Prove it!!

OK you asked for it...... Where did God stand when God created everything? In Quantum Physics the Big Bang theory has been modified. Its no longer an explode, expand, retract, repeat ad infinitum. They now put forth that when two membranes (basically universes, usually shortened to brane)...

    truthfulness

Personally I live a very truthful life (we dont refer to it religiously in this house, we call it stupidly paladin). Its a very difficult way to live your life. Many things in day-to-day existence seems to expect and require being less than truthful. My wife and I have developed a system where...

    What do you think?

Ummm OK. Im guessing you mean that in your religion there are two types. And Im not sure what it has to do with what I said. Unless you are trying to say that quantum physics will never be able to prove the existence of angels.

    Challenge - Prove it!!

I thought I already did an answer based on the definition of God. I thought it was pretty good. I didnt get much comment on it. Was it too scientific? Because Im about to toss in another totally different one and its even more scientific

    Know Thyself

Yes as irritating as my name has been over the years I must admit that its apparently a unique combination so far. Putting it in quotes into google works well. It comes up with 27,100 pages but as far as I can see it is all me. And 34,700 in the groups search. Nothing in news search thankfully...

    Know Thyself

Well you can try your name in quotes. For me searching for Gandalf Parker in most search engines (such as google) gets me any page with Gandalf OR Parker on it altho the "best" are listed at the top. But if you put in "Gandalf Parker" then you get a much more reasonable list. You also might try...

    Challenge - Prove it!!

I apologize. Actually Ive been recommending and linking this site in posts for years. And I was a member of the previous version of the board just recently returning. Also I will admit that I have a problem moderating. Ive moderated forums for as long as internet has been internet. Its...

I totally agree. My son has a large amount of titanium mechanics in him allowing him to have a semi-normal life far beyond what was originally expected (extensive scoliosis surgery). So Im not at all against such progress.

http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2008/02/13/science-bat-flying.html I thought this was interesting since it involves one of the holes in the theory of evolution. Its nice to see it get plugged. Of course one of the biggies still left is mammals. Gandalf Parker

"Machines will achieve human-level artificial intelligence by 2029, a leading US inventor has predicted." Keep in mind that 'human-level intelligence' is not the same as human. Its a common misconception that AI is headed toward being human and therefore is far in the future. In fact AI is done...

    Cruise Indoctrination Video

Well I cant disagree with that. But on the other hand I think Ive seen the same with many other groups. I would try not to judge any group by its well known fanatics. If we fell prey to that then Im not sure if any of our belief-systems would stand up well to it. I also remember that Ive...
