    Religion of love?

Not wrong about what? Isn't it pretty likely that "they" whoever they were, were wrong about some things and right about others? Or more subjectively, that you agreed with some things and disagreed with others? I hope you see my new thread specifically about blasphemy. People being executed for...

    Religion of love?

Replying to the original post from 2½ years ago - Refraining from harm, at a minimum - the concept of the non-aggression principle. Being helpful but not inflicting help on others - make sure they are willing to accept the help. There are times to be assertive offering help and times to wait...

On Blasphemy: A wrong, a right, or both, or neither?

https://www.humanism.scot/2016/03/04/a-scottish-martyr/ https://heritage.humanists.uk/thomas-aikenhead/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Aikenhead Dreadful. This young man should have been allowed to live out his life. NO MATTER WHAT HE SAID. Surely, nobody here is advocating for this??

On Blasphemy: A wrong, a right, or both, or neither?

This two minute video makes several good points within the first few seconds, including that blasphemy laws protect ideas, not people. In case this doesn't play on our site, it is this YouTube channel The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) [The Organization for Security...

On Blasphemy: A wrong, a right, or both, or neither?

This is to continue a subtopic we had going here Religion of love? on blasphemy and narrow the focus to that. This is space to address @muhammad_isa - if I don't misunderstand you I think you were supporting the idea of anti-blasphemy laws or something and @JP Bradt - hi newcomer I hope you...

    Religion of love?

So we don't have them. Laws that would hold everyone to obey a religious ideal are unfair to anyone who isn't a member of the protected religion (state supported religion) If you tried to have laws that forbid every religions idea of blasphemy well... What do you think would happen? Laws/rules...

    Thoughts about Trinity beliefs

It seems @Thomas is indicating, in his posts, that that idea actually is consistent with the written record. I think people often wonder, quite reasonably, "why didn't G-d just do x?" about so, so many things. Maybe we'll know one day, maybe we won't, maybe the question just won't matter by...

Jokes, jokes, and more jokes ...

Poor Dad indeed - ya gotta feel bad for him. I know how little patience I have sometimes for trying to fix things - other times I get so determined I won't let it go.

There is no justice if atheism is true

I'm going to challenge the original premise of this thread - IF some branches of Buddhism are non-theistic, but still believe in karma, consequences, and cause and effect - as a natural law, an independent system, not administered by a single elevated judge of any kind - is there not then some...

    Religion of love?

You've said that a few times, and I don't know what examples you are referring to, but depending on the particulars, people may indeed be smarter (what do you mean by smarter?) and/or wiser and/or more well informed about some things than their own ancestors, or smarter - knowing better -...

    Who created God?

You find that in some religions. It's about tradition and culture. In Judaism, there are people who are atheist but who still identify as Jews because they were born and raised Jewish and that is their culture.
