Please look to the other threads on this topic if you wish to argue whether he is or isn't qualified. They have much info to digest and ponder and dispute over there.

Here I have one question.

What if?

What if it is found that he is not legally/constitutionally elligible for office?

What then?

What would happen if we ousted him on that basis?

What would happen if we modified the rules for him?

No legal arguements here if he is or isn't, was or wasn't, did or didn't, should or shouldn't.

The only question I'd like to see discussed are the five questions I have listed.

It's my thread and I'll cry if I want to.

Howard Dean would lose his job.

What then?
Lots of folks would blame Bush/Cheney.

Lots of folks would blame Bush/Cheney, and/or cry "racism."

What would happen if we modified the rules for him?
The Constitution would be seriously compromised.

Okie-dokie.

Since when do we modify laws to excuse intentional crimes? Perhaps for a messiah?

Leagally anything he signed into law would be invalid since he took office under false pretenses. People would be accused of racism and there would be riots leading to probable deaths. Of course it would lead to court fights but you have to admit it would be "change."

As a person who voted for Obama and a card-carrying socialist liberal pinko commie, if he is not qualified to be president by the requirements of our constitution, then he can not be president.

That said, this whole birth certificate thing has to be the biggest red herring ever planted by the paranoid and frightened right-wing.

You boys keep running with that. Let me know how it works for you.

Ditto. :D In the meantime, I'm going to work on the real problems... rising unemployment, lack of health care, serious lack of ERs and preparedness for disasters/bioterrorism/pandemics...

There are serious problems here and I wish people would spend energy working on them.

Personally, I could give a rip if the President is a natural-born citizen, but then, as one of my students pointed out, I don't consider myself an American. I'm just a human being who happens to have been born in the United States. Country boundaries are meaningless to me in terms of morals/ethics and solving problems. I think they are a hindrance, but I understand how for most people, it's really necessary to separate ourselves from each other as much as possible so we can fight about stuff and abdicate our responsibility to work together for the good of our entire species and the earth.

So I put up with it.

It's not that I don't like the States or Americans or something. It's just that I don't see us as any different from them. There's some good folks and bad folks, rich folks and poor folks, yada yada. A human is a human is a human.

Bush got in by cheating the system, and we let him stick around and mess things up for 8 years. I suspect that if Obama is not really eligible, it doesn't matter much. Just like a minority of liberal folks yelled and pouted about Bush and it did nothing, now it's the minority of conservative folks' turn to do the same (IF there is even any grounds for it).

Personally, I'd just like to see some stuff get done for the good of the people for once. I don't care who does it.

I guess you are also one of the many that would spend around a million dollars not to reveal your birth certificate to spite the law since there is nothing to hide. I admire your tenacity. You are a man above doubt and any question of this is an insult worth exhausting all your savings to defend your honer. You have your pride. Good for you.

You still haven't told me if you're willing to take my $20 bet.

Chicken?

I don't know. There are some very intelligent people like jeff Schreiber who works in the court and is a law student that keeps me up to date and there are many signatures of people demanding proof of eligability. Part of me suggests that it is important enough to keep growing. Yet if something important happens or if the right woman decides to take her clothes off in an upcoming movie, people could forget. Who knows? I do know that this issue has convinced people that the constitution is no longer necessary to be respected if it inhibits ones own aim which will cause great harm in the long run if not the short run.

This issue?

I think we just endured 8 long years of constitutional disrespect.

You focus on the funniest things.

Question:
What if it is found that (Obama) is not legally/constitutionally elligible for office?

What then?

What would happen if we modified the rules for him?

Answer:

The Constitution would be seriously compromised.
Amendments do not compromise rules and laws. They improve on them! However, I expect a legal interpretation would make it unnecessary to change anything about the Constitution if the issue of Obama's eligibility were actually evaluated at the appropriate level of analysis. See my post #560

They modified the rules for both sbush & sclinton when they both should have been impeached for lying to congress & to the public, so why not modify the rules for sobama? Lying is one of those acceptable things if you want to be president. The better you lie the more votes you get kind of thing.

Now Mcscain has not been caught in any real big lies yet, which explains why he lost and of course people did not want 4 more years of bushness doctrine & failed policies.

I am not sure why it is so hard to grasp that when someone tells the same lie to a lot of people they cannot be trusted.

I do give credit to both clinton & obama for at least admitting to their mistakes. Unlike bush & cheney who still believe they have not derailed from the get go & appearantly believe their own lies.
