Excellent! How come you've learnt this apparently very difficult language?
I think I might like to go to Japan but the language barrier is one of the things that puts me off.

Oh, and to keep with the thread: be in the sangha of the Buddha. Obviously I'd need a Babel fish in my ear to understand what was going on.

personally, I wouldn't bother travelling back in time, as then, much like now, the world was full of fools, and although we have mobile phones, we havent advanced much at all... I wouldn't want to go to the future either, as well, I would be lost, technology would have moved on, and I assume ppl would still in the main, be fools there, too... I'll just sit ere, and wait for u all to come bk with ur grand tales.. saves on the shoe leather...

Japanese is far from difficult to learn there are far harder languages.... When it comes to Kanji I am not so hot but spoken words I am not too bad. There is always room for improvement... Why did I learn it? Because I love Japanese history.... I love the honor, the way of life every small and great thing about Japan... As a kid I picked up lots when pretending to be either a ninja or Samurai. It grew from there... Getting a strong "foundation" of common words you after awhile memorise... and just build and build and constantly keep building...... *nods*

What period of history would I visit? One with indoor plumbing?Early Sumer fascinates me- I'd love to see the invention of the city, writting, the change from nomadic to settled... Also the chance to meet the real King Gilgamesh (I think the literery one is the best example of a 'mythical' hero there is). Egypt to see the pyramids being built (well, at tleast one of them). The Mayan's seem quite interesting as well, but I'd avoid the Aztecs... There's loads more interesting periods of history were it'd be interesting to find out what realy happened. But if forced to pick just one, Early Summer, were it all started.

Unfortunatly Mel Gibson got other people to do some very accurate research for him for that film. About 15 years ago, before I got interested in Sumer, I was fascinated by the Aztecs and 'very annoyed' with the Conquistadors for what they did to them. That was while I was reading about what a wonderful, advanced society and technology they had for the time and place. Then, the more you dig, the more you find out about their total aggression towards other tribes, the daily human sacrifice on a scale that would make even the most blood thirsty European/Middle Eastern ancient gods go 'just a tad excessive there', how most of their sport involved killing at least one person-how invading a village and destroying it, murdering and raping the inhabitants they weren't going to take as sacrifice or slaves was considered a good, moral act. An impressive technology alone does not an admirable society make. Now I still think the Conquistadors were wrong but wonder how many of the Aztecs victims would think it was 'poetic justice'.

Technology full stop shouldn't make any civilisation admirable... :/

Of course I would like to have been there for the life of Jesus, and at his resurrection so I could see an actual angel as well.

But, I would like to have been in Constantinople in 1054 during the final Schism between what is now Roman Catholicism and the Orthodox Church. I bet that was a crazy time, people must have thought " this is surely the end of the world".

I like to see Vladimir the Great when he ruled the Kievan Rus, the sacking of Rome by the Visigoths, and the hanging gardens of Babylon in 600 BC.

And typically enough, the October Revolution and the end of WWII.

I would love to have been there when the Salam Witch trails were on, to find out what was running through the thoughts of peoples minds to want to kill others for trival things

And to have been there when the first pyrimid was built

A question that I'm uncertain was answered. Would you be stuck in that time period you visited? Most of history may have its ups, but it also has its downs (long wars, slavery, more prejudice and discrimination). I would actually be more interested in seeing the future of our planet and if human influence has delt a lot of lasting damage.

Well I am hoping that it is only just to visit because I wouldn't want to stay in the Salam witch trials because I don't think that I would survive very long because of the way everyone accused each other, truthfully I am amazed there were quite a lot of people alive by the end of it

Hold that tought.... I been focusing too much on PAST history.... What of future history? I want to visit the time when everyone is a good looking woman who wears hardly anything and that doesn't leave too much to the imagination... And funky fake ears and other bits of alien make up.... Where I can teleport.... sweet... Maybe weed will be excepted with an embrace of open loving arms then?
