Have you read it? This is his list of "riches"

    THE 12 RICHES OF LIFE
    1. A Positive Mental Attitude (PMA)

    2. Sound physical health

    3. Harmony in human relationships

    4. Freedom from fear

    5. The hope of achievement

    6. The capacity for faith

    7. A willingness to share one's blessings

    8. A labour of love

    9. An open mind on all subjects

    10. Self-discipline

    11. The capacity to understand people

    12. Economic security

Notice that economic security is at the bottom of the list and PMA is at the top. So many people go around unhappy because of their current economic condition when instead they could focus on the other 11 riches of life and be grateful for them.

    You are right!

My PMA must have bested my self-discipline, and I lost count ;)

His story about the Carnegie challenge that lead to the book is interesting.

So did Hill ever become as wealthy and successful as Carnegie?

Somehow, this reminds me of the British pop band KLF in the 90'ies. They wrote a self-help manual for landing a hit in the charts, followed their own manual, landed a hit... then they decided to burn the money they earned in a stove, or something. They wanted to sell copies of the money-burning movie clip to make back the money they had just burned. That last part was pretty weird, and it didn't work out very well.

    Money magic is tricky.

    Edit: Here's the movie:

I'd never heard of Napoleon Hill, and reading his biog on wiki does not endear him to me.

(implications of involvement in covering up a homicide, warrants for fraud ... check out his wiki entry)

I agree with Wil that a financially poor man can be rich in many ways, and equally a financially rich man poor ... but I'm not sure that rule is universal?

Freedom from fear is No4, and for a vast part of humanity, No4 is dependent on No12 — economic security.

I wonder if Hill ever talked to his female contemporaries in the US who had no right to a bank account, to own property, a company, etc., without the signature of a man to endorse them ... ?

And environmentalists and ecologists put economic security as one of the principle factors effecting the well-being of a vast part of humanity. That they're dirt poor by our standards is one thing, and doesn't prevent a PMA ... but being driven into migration by famine, war, economic interference of the affluent nations, etc. The UN regards migration as a serious issue in the coming decades, and how many countries has the west destabilised in pursuit of its own goals, and how many populations suffer considerably as a result?

The latest example is the US-led 'solution' to the Israel-Palestine problem which basically ignores Palestine and green-lights Israel.

Carnegie does not support any link nor suggestion of influence ... reading between the lines ... Snake oil dude?

Mmm .. and its causing havoc with the Labour party here in the UK..
Apparently, the Labour party is anti-semitic .. well, I suppose they must be if they don't support Israel .. everybody knows that Palestinians are all terrorists (sic) :(

I would guess that this list is aimed at some sort of middle class perhaps?

Hmm, I need to work on my counting skills. I just remembered the number four and then saw 10 above and put them together.

Good thing there’s no summer school at the moment. And that I don’t teach math.
