This is more of a Christian question but I think it best to ask it here. The bible states a single day is like a thousand years, right? Jesus was said to die and go the hell for 3 days. If a day is = to a thousand years, could we be taking our first steps in the last days ... awaiting the kingdom to manifest here...on earth? 1 John 4 ... jesus has come in the flesh, in us temples of the living God. So, how long has it been since Jesus died? 2000 years and ??? I'm hopeful ... I don't see doom and gloom at all, but rather a new birth, a better life and way. What say you?

Honestly, I don't think he ever truly left us ... but rather been preparing a few things for us. It's a spiritual thing, so I'll view this both as a masculine and feminine phenomenon.

Ok, so assuming we are now entering into the third day (millenium) -- the day of resurrection -- how does it account for the nights of Christ's burial? It's not an argument or a trick question. Just a follow-up on the idea.

Great to see you around gate keeper!

I got nothing on your conjecture though... I think the day=1k idea was early attempts on reconciling the 7day creation with evolution (then it switched to era before they gave up) but even then that was an OT concept and I don't believe transferred to NT or we'd have a lot if other days to deal with...

    I'm no help here.

Say he was buried, and like 1 john 4 states he has come in the flesh ... the lord is that spirit, etc. Think Pentecost. Ok, 2000 plus years and counting, 1000 years per burial day. Ok, this world is entering a new era, and the spirit is on the move in really big ways. What I'm saying, and wil ... you know I view it all to happen here, so a few more centuries and it should be established for good. A much better world I mean. Then comes the great ascension ... I guess like Jesus was said to do, but on a global scale. Peace on earth good will towards all. The scripture say men, but hey ... without woman we ain't shit right?

In a sense, no ... I think this is how it is, eternal life doesn't necessarily pertain to us as individuals as much as it pertains to the future of our kind. For the kids and all who have yet to come, and if that's how it is, and I do believe in reincarnation, we'll be born again in the world to come. There will never be another me. This life is all I'll ever live, but ... I may become a brand new creation one day ... like a new born baby only in a better world. Anyway, 2000 plus years and counting, the spirit is moving in big ways, and I'm fairly convinced that sometime between now and that 3000 year milestone, we'll be tasting the first fruits of heaven on earth ... ever increasing glory and joy and peace and all that.

At the moment, my life is pretty horrible, but this hope helps me keep moving forward in step with my convictions.

I would assume it's the same as ... 24 hour = a day in most most parts of the world, which includes about half night time, so ... I prefer a good balance like that, but that could be because I'm accustomed to it. Like good and evil hot cold darkness light. I don't think we'll ever be without hardships and to be honest, I don't want to be. I do think they will decrease as the better things increase ... steady pace, ever increasing, yet nothing left behind, only a decrease in the bad an increase in the good ... given we can maintain a healthy balance between.

Yes, there are many layers and link-ups and insights. It's why scripture always has new messages and meanings, and why the gospels are always fresh and the mysteries of Christ never ending, imo.

Thank you for your original observation. It is indeed a hopeful one.

I've always stated that they meet us where we are no matter. I think an ever increasing open pov and willingness to learn and keep learning instead of leaning on our own, current understanding is helpful. One thing I like to do is start on a solid foundation, then build from there, and of course Christ is the or a corner stone of the structure itself.

    I assume we're talking 2 Peter 3:8 here?
"... my beloved, that one day with the Lord is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day."

The key here is that 'as' ... Peter is saying a doy with God is like a thousand year, not that a day is a thousand years.

    It's a simile:
"a figure of speech involving the comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind, used to make a description more emphatic or vivid (e.g. as brave as a lion )."

OK, but do see that has been said of every era?

Well I admire you hope and to some degree share it, but with Climate Extinction looming, and the forecasts of economic migration rising exponentially as the Big Players take possession of the world's swindling resources, I think that outlook is facing a number of significant hurdles.

I think all these add to the urgency of our situation ... A thousand years per day ... not exactly literal as he was said to have rose three days after he was crucified. So, in that regard I think you caught the gist. The thousand + 2000 years is now in play and has been for over 2000 years. Change (repentance) takes time, particularly when we're dealing with creatures whom were once destroyed because of our wicked and evil ways. So, if the sun will one day go super nova, and there's absolutely no hope to create a better world for our children, then why the hell are we hanging on so tightly and even trying at all? We have the capabilities to destroy it all and I mean every little thing on the earth. If there's no hope for our children why the hell do we keep bringing them into this god forsaken world?

For that matter Thomas ... Why not ditch religion altogether, cling to life and everything we find good and great and pleasurable, and have ourselves a really big and rich time having fun as we all perish and face our doom? It sounds a great deal better than banging my head against brick walls, and arguing/discussing resolutions with people who seem to be so full of darkness that it'd seem better to turn away completely than to even make a single further attempt at reason and/or reconciliation. Here's a fact ... Life is and religion doesn't have to be.

No, not literal at all, that's the point. It's a figure of speech. I'd say a million million years is an eye-blink to God, considering the age of the universe, and that's just this one!

That's the nature of the human condition, isn't it? We're addicted to our consumer goods, our tech, our lifestyle, and as a creature we don't like change. I mean, if it's so obvious we are in trouble, why are we going on just as we did before ... ?

Well a daughter of mine for one had taken the decision not to bring children into this world.

I'm not saying there's no hope because there's a comet hurtling towards the earth, I'm saying there is very limited hope because we're just not willing to change — in the face of all the evidence that says we must — the habits that have brought us to this brink.

Why not indeed ... for one I'd say both those attitudes, the 'we must change' and 'what the hell' require someone looking with their eyes open. Largely, we shuffle on through lives with our eyes shut. How else do we explain phenomena like the current political situation — China is locking down its barriers, India is waiting in the wings, Russia is dismantling the US global outreach, here in the UK the right is in pursuit of a fantasy vision of England that never existed and cannot today...

I once held, briefly, the Illuminati-kind of idea (It's actually a lot older than that) of the King of the World, a kind of secret court wherein the esoterically-occultly great-and-good pulled the strings on human affairs ... well if such a council exists, they've made an absolute dogs dinner of managing the affairs of man :D

Now I realise the human being is a deeply superstitious creature, but where once religion was the melting pot of all our superstitions, we in the west have now rationalised them. 'Conspiracy theories' come from the same place. A blind faith in the idea that science will answer all the questions/work the solutions/save the planet comes from the same place ...

Which brings me to sort of the opposite of what the OP posits...

G!d so loved the world he sent his only begotten Son to live amongst, to live, to die and be tortured....

G!d ...making pancakes for breakfast....Yo Jesus, put down that video game controller and come over here..

Dad, I went down to earth...

    G!d, what, where, when?

While you flipped that last one....

To get technical: time&space came into being 13.8 thousand million years ago.

The Earth is 4.5 thousand million years old.

Homo Sapiens has existed for 200/300 thousand years and civilisation for around 6000 years, current estimates.
