But does it matter a lot to you whether or not Christianity survives? I am a not very rigid Catholic Christian; I don't regard it as my responsibility to 'keep Christianity alive'. If it dies, it dies. I've no interest in converting anyone, or in changing scripture and church in order to bring in new people.

To me Christ is alive and he's doing fine last 2000 yrs so far? The church is safe in God's hands, imo. And if it is not, what could we do to save it?

It's the underlying assumption of woke/we generation.

WE have the job and duty to save our planet and everything else. WE all know God's not capable of doing anything, because we all know God doesn't exist, snigger, snigger. So get out there and protest everybody. Thus to make a perfect world by our own blood and sweat and toil, etc.

It's a gulf too wide to cross, imo.

The bible is still my goto spiritual book... I find worthy contemplation in the stories... Solace a d comfort in the words. I didn't always.

But the old quote fake or not...

I wish your Christians were more like your Christ.

Nobody is perfect, but hypocrisy shouldn't be the goal.

"If God is real, why does he allow bad stuff to happen?" Peel the onion.

Time to paint God out of the picture. WE can do a better job ...

Safe in God's hands. If not, no point thinking about it anyway ...

No, simply pointing out that Francis would not support Spong's view of what Christianity is and its contemporary relevance, any more than Spong would support Francis.

Soong supports Francis on many topics more than you know.

I'd even go out on a limb with assurance to say on some topics Francis knows Spong is correct.

Of course I've only been in conversations with one of them.

I suppose on extrinsic sociological issues there is common ground, as indeed there is common ground between the RCC and all religious traditions.

When it comes to the intrinsic principles of Christianity however, there the two can never meet.

Francis stands by the twelve propositions of the Creed, and I assume Spong still stands by his '12 Points of Reform'.

If you're an electrician or welder no-one thinks they know more than you to tell you how you should do your job. If you're the Pope, everybody thinks they know better than you?

Lol, really? There isn't a profession that isn't second guessed by a herd of old farts in armchairs.

The bigger the pedestal...the more detractors you'll find.
