Well, to be precise, Rome never governed the whole world, just its own sphere of influence ... and in that sense, Britain was bigger than Rome, and the US had influence across a far greater part of the world than Rome ever did.

The triumvirate US-Russia-China currently looks like Orwell's prediction, and 'fake news' is undeniably Orwellian 'newspeak'.

Well Rush underestimated. man is currently making the planet uninhabitable for many, many species.

Ask the Third World, old friend.

Only God knows, and time will tell.

Who is Vlad Vexler ... what's his cred?

What I found most telling is on going to the link, the banner ad was for Nigel Farage ...

Currently? Lol...or since man has existed?

It wasnt till the 1960s that we decided we should slow our genocide of species and attempt to save some that we deemed both worthy and endangered.

Yeah...third world will rule someday I believe...

Apology if I sounded rude. It's not supportive of Putin. Not at all. But it's authorative of his mental state, imo

As I said: my knowledge is increased by it, and so I offered it

OK, I was just wondering what authority Vexler has, as a spokesperson on Putin's mind?

TBH, I'm not sure what he's saying that's not already been said?

Ah well, I haven't been following too closely. Someone sent it, and I shared it, using judgement ...

Current events and public discourse in the media having moved beyond this point, I feel comfortable to comment on it, since it's no longer fueled by media. So here goes:

Kosovo is close to the heart of Serbian national sentiment, it is where a decisive battle took place in the middle ages, which Serbian national identity sees as foundational (even if the Serbian side lost that battle back then).

The modern borders of Poland do not resemble any previous historic ones. vast areas of historic eastern Poland were removed, along with culturally significant Polish cities, and modern western Poland was added after the last World war. Indeed, large areas of modern Ukraine used to be part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the late middle ages and early modern times.

Istanbul is the heart of Greek Orthodoxy and still has a special place in Eastern Orthodoxy, and yet, it is now Turkish.

My own city, Berlin, was named by a Slavic speaking people, the Sorbs, who called it "the swamp" in their language, and were living in the eastern half of modern day Germany long before the first "Prussian" king took his crown. Oh, and the real Prussians, or rather, the original ones, were a Baltic people like the Lithuanians, living in what is now Kaliningrad Oblast and bordering north-Eastern Poland. Those national myths don't tend to hold any water for any length of time, anyway.

All of England used to be Celtic! Many mythologically important sites from Welsh mythology are English nowaadays. The Hen Ogledd, "the Old North", is attributed to the ancient text Taliesin. Modern day northern England and southern Scotland.

I can go on and on. I'd like to say very clearly that I don't think highly of evoking such historical circumstances to justify any power play, least of all a war.

Hello...... I notice that supporters if President Putin are displaying the sign Z. Is that correct, or is it the other way round?

That might be a better result than last century..... after two decades into the 20th the whole world had been involved in war, and then the Spanish flu took even more lives than the war had.

Wow! That caught my attention, somewhat....!
The glimpse of an ant flotilla in a raging flood. And starvation, raping and killing during every minute. While I drink tea and type, and my wife snoozes in bed. Luck? Chance? All I feel able to do at this time is to rejoice in this minute of time, that my wife, pets and self are well and happy. I'll rejoice now, for tomorrow.....
......a word or two from Omar:-
The Worldly Hope men set their Hearts upon,
Turns Ashes - or it prospers; and anon,
Like Snow upon the Desert's dusty Face
Lighting a little Hour or two - is gone.

    'War is what we do.....'
Yes. We even make war with our neighbours, over a fenceline, or noise, or a pavement.
Yes. Some of us make war in a homes, with relatives over a television program, or spending, or much worse.
Humans manage to make war everywhere, anywhere.
So what chance have countries got?
