Obviously the Bible is indispensible to the Christian faith but what other books tend to be particularly valued by Christians.

For this follower of the teachings of Jesus (not Christian by many Christian standards) I require a couple of parallel bibles to get multiple versions and more insight to any scripture in the Bible. And while there are a number of books I am looking at on my Christian shelves about or by Merton, Assisi etc these are the ones I most often pull off the shelves to relook, refresh or show someone.

A benchmark for me

A comparison

Some background

More background and issues/hurdles

A reference for more introspection interpretation

I am only familiar with the last book on your list. I have long been impressed by John Shelby Spong.

The spong book I have gotten Bible book clubs to read and discuss, has been quite interesting. The first book there is from not long after our Civil War, the book from thay, Jesus n Bhudda reunited as brothers, quite the eye opener for me. Rocco Errico is an Aramaic scholar who studied under George Lamsa who published this about a century ago https://www.christianbook.com/holy-...aiwDaGfSvsYDwXrP28Nt29SDEb3tm47AaAjTKEALw_wcB
Which is one of the versions I refer to when I look at a verse of scripture My favorite to book by Errico tho is on the Aramaic Lord's prayer, "setting a trap for G!d" I tend to get it off the shelf a couple times a year.

I can see that Spong would be a great writer for discussion. I know that some of his books got him hate mail and death threats.
I have read other books by Thich Nhat Hanh and have liked him very much. I was very saddened by the deaths of both.

I find it inconsiderate to refer to the Christian bible as 'The Bible'.
You may possibly be right, although a quick google of "the bible" does not support your claim. However, as my post was made in the 'Christian' section, I feel that no further details were required nor do I feel that your objection is justified.

If you read as much as you talked you would know that I am no Christian. And I certainly aint forgiving F***er.

Same silly argument is used by Canadians about the word America.
