Hi, Everyone, and Peace to All Here--

I am so totally unsure where to post this thread. I thought that maybe this might be the best place, at least for now.

So, here is my thought: What if the "world" just goes on for a while? What will be the news reports or personal comments, school books or song lyrics, etc. in 2050 or 3005? Or any future time?

What will be the record of the times we are in right now? What will others from the future say about us?

I am only asking for what anyone imagines; however, if there is something anyone believes for certain, I would be interested in those contributions as well, although I cannot guarantee that the prediction or conviction will necessarily be met with blind acceptance:) .

i love to think of these questions. and when i do i love to think that human beings, as a whole, are moving towards an inevitable shift in consciousness. there are numerous angles one could take in an attempt to back up this "belief" but i would not know where to begin, so i will just say that perhaps by 2013 the world in which we live will be unimaginable by current standards. the shift being (perhaps only metaphorically) analogous with the difference between life inutero and life in the world as we know it today.

I think they might find it fascinating that so many of us, from so many different religions, thought the end of the world was immanent, just as many of us social scientists find it amusing and interesting that many Europeans during the time of the Plague thought the end of the world was right around the corner, as did the Christians directly after Jesus' death, and numerous other folks throughout time. It's a recurring theme; everyone thinks the world they live in is the worst it can possibly get before the world ends.

My best guesses as a scientist- I'm guessing the world won't literally end any time soon. I do think, however, some major upheavals are headed our way, because we're overpopulated and unsustainable. Our current agriculture relies heavily on fossil fuels, and when these run out in about 25-50 years, we're in serious trouble if we don't start putting a lot of effort into organic gardening and permaculture now. We're facing losing 70% of our food supply when we no longer have tractors and pesticides. So we might be in for some big depopulation events, and the associated social reorganization. I'm curious what will come out at the other side. It's depressing, but it's also fascinating to watch. I get to live during a time of perhaps the greatest social experiment ever- to see what happens when a thinking, tool-making species' population grows exponentially and outstrips its resource base.
I have no opinion about the shift of consciousness ideas, though I've heard them from various folks, mostly New Age and neo-Pagan. To tell the truth, I've never gotten a lot of details about what that means, except some people who say the "Veil" will be lifted, and so the spiritual Otherworld(s) will be open to our own and magic will be more possible. 2013 is an oft-cited year due to it being the end/beginning of the long-count calendar of the Maya. Some even believe the world ends in 12/21/2013 because that's when the calendar does. But the Maya concept of time was cyclical, so it's not so much an end as a beginning, and there was no indication that the Maya thought it would accompany any big change. We'll see in a few years, I suppose.

Personally, I just desperately hope that people will become more loving and forgiving by 3000, that we'll finally become more peaceful and recognize the beauty in all of us. I hope those future archaeologists look back at all the remnants of war and violence they uncover and shake their heads in wonder at how "primitive" we were, at how we could possibly live in such a manner.

Hi, Peace to All Here--

Just now have had (or made) time to really read back through these two exquisitely thoughtful and sincere answers. Thank you both, tadpole and path_of_one.

I would really love to hear from more of you here in CR.

For my part (for now:)), I think that if people in the future have an opportunity to study the ongoing conversation (I hesitate to make it plural) that is present on this forum, they may find that this relatively small group of curious people were "really onto something". Anyone for burying the transcripts in a time capsule or launching them into orbit for posterity (in case it comes about?:) )

More from me later--looking forward to more from everyone! (By the way, should this thread be here in "Philosophy" or in the Lounge? Maybe the "History" subforum--oh, wait--never mind;) :D .)

What will others from the future say about us?
one thing for sure they will say, how backward we were & how they cant believe we lived so old fashioned. hopefully the world will not drop too many bombs on each other.

i think the world does go on for awhile. one way or another the earth abideth forever.

we still have the new millenium InLove & that is what I am looking forward to:) .

indeed...

with a cyclic view of time, it is nigh impossible to posit an end, or a beginning, for that matter... and this is, essentially, the Mayan view.... cyclic time... rather like us Eastern religion types, as it were...

Hello, and Peace to All Here--

Vajradhara, thanks for the post. Interesting that you mentioned the Mayans. Their history report from the future is quite fascinating to me.

They did seem to understand something about time that many today cannot see. Perhaps it is because we don't make time to see it.:)

I believe they'll look back the same way we look behind us to those with a mute movies or horse carriage. Women will approuve or disaprove the mode tendancies. Men will do their best to have a car collection. In a way, they are lucky those from our future generation. They can benefit of all those TV or radio records, plus the net collection. :)

Hi, Peace All--

Some great observations in here. I notice a trend toward the positive....

Yes--the times we live in could definitely leave a legacy in the areas of technology and communication. And many of the arts--like the entertainment arts--could ride on those coattails.

A legacy, yes. It depends on them to appreciate it. I belive in about 100 years, we'll have colonies on the Moon and Mars. You see, I don't count on a changement in the human behaviour, only in technology, science, arts, religion, etc.

Hi All and Peace--

Namaste--

Yes, Alexa, I do believe it will depend on them to appreciate. It also depends on us to preserve. I sure hope we and they can contribute something worthwhile....

What seems likely to me concerning the future and beyond is the legacy and innocence of all our children.

The innocence of the children is more difficult to preserve with all those TV shows and playstation games.

Well, that was wierd--just reread my last post!:) I must have gotten distracted. I guess I just meant that I hope that history will show we cared about the future. But it won't if we don't love the children of the world right now.

Something along those lines, anyway....

Taking a little time off--thanks for the thoughts, everyone. Maybe I will have some more of my own and some more to read when I return.

I imagine they will look on upon as as stupid/primitive people... Like we did the people before us.... That's what happens. Answers that are in front of peoples faces seeming so obvious to the furture people than the past people but the past people just cannot see what they are doing is wrong... err example...

Past person: I want to show I am rich and I want to look beautiful... I am going to COVER my face in powder dye lead......

Future person: lol noob.... theres a nice slow death with a side order of lead posioning for you....

Past person: When I need to go toilet... I am going to do it on to paper or a bowl and then simply throw it out of my window onto the streets below...

Future person: Oh kthx, thats very healthy and certainly won't spread diesase will it.... idiot..

Past person: Using steal hammers and shells I can cure mental illness by hitting certain pressure points on the human skull two upon the temples and one directly ontop of the skull and one at the back where the spine enters the skull... YOUR CURED BUDDY!! :D

Future person: You are now more a rambling vegtable than you were before buddy.... You have lost all movement nerves/communication nerves and will do nothing but shake like a maniac till you finally.... slowly die....

Past person: there is witches!"$!"£$! HAZAR!! We shall put them in the water if they float! They be a witch! If they drown... oops my bad that was a human....

Future person:..... Uhm, no comment...

When we are the past person I am sure there will be alot that we do that is mocked as stupid :D

This is actually like a history report from the future! I am reading my words from the past. Wow. I was really ill then, and trying to work and keep up my posts and...wow.

I still feel like the same person. Oh, I am! Just a little braver now, maybe.

What doesn't kill us makes us stronger? Hmmm....

Some pretty relevent observations there, Angel--:)

What doesn't kill you, will make you stronger :D And maybe a little better prepared for the next time you face that.

You guys are really the bomb. I love following your posts around CR and chuckling. So much fun to see people so different and so far apart having so much fun with each other in an electronic medium.

Who knows, since your original, witty and clever interplay is in an electromagnetic form, maybe future people are already seeing how wonderful we really are/were ...huh ?

My head hurts again.

flow....:p

Hi folks!! Never thought I would be talking to you all after so long. Anyway I'm sure you all want to know what the next 5 decades will bring you so I'l get straight to it.

First off, as I speak I dont actually have a body any more, (makes that "doo-doo" thread started by Juantoo3 in your yesterday kind of redundant :p ). When my arthritis got really too painful to bear any more, a year ago now, I decided to opt for Googlesofts Eternity program. Thus I had my 'self', not my body, uploaded into the worlds most powerful computer, Eternity. This is not a silicone based electronic antique like you are all using but a man made peice of what you know as superstring. It exists in the quantum matrix everywhere and nowhere at all times and none, hence my ability to post here now. Anyhow you will know that you too can soon opt for this program when Googlesoft moves it's Headquarters to Greenland.

Greenland!! YES!! Global Warming finished melting the Greenland Ice Sheet almost 20 years ago now with sometimes devastating consequences for coastal communities the world over. I wont laden you with any of the grusome details but rather I will tell you that by and large we coped with the changes. The doom-mongers were not all wrong, but neither were they right. Humankind reveals its best side when faced with a challenge, and boy did we rise!! Almost as much as the sea-level!! But I digress, Googlesoft moved there for a reason, because of something that was revealed when the ice melted.. but I think it best you wait and see what.

Upload into Eternity raises questions for most of you, no doubt, about God and Soul etc. Well all I can say is you are all right!! And you are all wrong!! But let me assure you of this.. look around you, from a tiny flower to the incomprehnsibly massive dance of a cluster of galaxies, everywhere everything is beautiful. This beauty is immutable.

In politics, funny its been years since I even used the word, things begin to change drasticly in 2020. The 2020 Vision at its inception paves the way for the abolition of national borders. It is a huge catastrophy that is the catalyst for this but out of it comes a unity of purpose for all mankind. Racial, cultural and religious differences continue to make a rich and valuable contribution to human society but no longer are they a cause for suspicion and division. The internet, and primarily the evolution of Googlesofts Uvote, and the common sense of the mass population are key to this shift.

There is only one army now, and its more of a squad than an army really. One of the first things the world voted unanimously for was the outlawing and destruction of all firearms and weapons systems. Only Amnesty now holds a small garrison of peacekeepers that have access to the worlds only remaining arsenal. And all these weapons though extremely effective are non-lethal. Even then I dont think they have been called into use for over 25 years.
The capacity for the type of mindless self-interest that that led to violence in your day has through gene therapy been erradicated. And not, as many might fear in 2007, with any loss of our essential humanity. We still get heated and angry when appropriate, we just never descend into barbarity any more.

Finaly, and my real reason for breaking all the rules here in Eternity is that I am selling lottery numbers. For a small fee $50 or £25 deposited in a numbered high interest account in Beijing I will give you, in turn ,the winning lotto numbers for your chosen lottery. This offer is limited to one each. It is also the only way I am able to purchase the premium service I am now enjoying here in Eternity :p Please post your interest here :)

Well thats me out of space for now, which means out of time before the program notices I'm breaking the rules. So all of you... Dont Worry about tomorrow...its beautiful!!

TE

P.S. I have put a selective masking glitch so the me thats in your time cannot see this post... please, dont tell him about it!!
