Ok. .so my boss is a JW.. I love the guy Hes hispanic and hispanic guys make me laugh because of their machismo.. So we goof around a lot.. Hes married to a beautiful woman who has been very sick for the past 10 years.. Its a strange thing because she is sick with the very thing that killed my dad when he was 39 and she is also 39 yo

So I ask him if he believes in miracles.. which he says no.. he said that there are no more miracles.. so I tell him some of the miracles Ive seen lately one of which is a healing of an incurable disease.. he said that he believes that stuff happens but not that they are miracles??? whatever that means.. so he tries to tell me some stuff and I tell him about mee and he told me based on what I told him that mee is apostate and not a true believer... sorry mee. Apparently internet witnessing isnt that popular in the kingdom halls...

anyways he tells me right off that Jesus isnt God.. Im like yeah yeah I heard this one before.. he tells me that Jesus is the son of God given the powers of God.. I was like ok.. so Jesus is our example.. we are to live like Jesus lived.. he said exactly.. I was like ok.. Jesus healed and performed miracles.. why cant we do that if we are to live like Jesus lived.. !!! he did exactly what mee does.. He sidesteps the issue.. and changed the subject. oh my goodness...

I let him change the subject but then I took hold of the conversation and asked him if he read the book of psalms and he said of course.. he reads all of the bible... I said ok so do you believe that God keeps His promises and Javier said yes I said ok what about Gods promise that He will give us a long life and save us from our time of troubles if we but know His name??? I said your wife is 39 thats far from living a long life.. well ... javier changed the subject again.

It was very sad to me.. I felt the burden he feels.. he has to be strong for his wife and his family and the responsibilities of witnessing all weekend.. and the high standards for himself personally bleed over into his employees.. he has no life.. he has work work work.. God created us for His good pleasure.. so it pleases Him to see us enjoy His creation and our lives.. These people are in huge bondage and I will always pray for them. They love God.. they love their version of Jesus Christ... the most horrible thing I can think is that when they face the judgement seat... the disillusionment they might feel that they had it all wrong they believed a lie.. how sad :( I went out to my car and cried for an hour and prayed until the Lord released me..

Please.. with me.. pray for these people.

I asked him if he had the opportunity to see his wife healed would he take it and he said no.. that they are supposed to suffer in this life. I told him that Christ suffered so we dont have to .. . he changed the subject again.

He gave me information of the kingdom halls in my area and the watchtower web address I took them graciously.. I know his intentions are good and I adore him for wanting to see me saved by his standards.. but dear one Im already saved.

its good to hear that this dear brother who is suffering the pain of seeing his wife suffer, has the hope of the resurrection , and it will be a fine time indeed to be united with his loved one with no sickness in the new world to spoil things. i can understand why he thought about apostates when you mentioned me on the internet , that is because the internet is a place where many apostates lurk around and he realizes that a person who is not getting information from the channel that Jesus is using (matthew 24;45-47 ) will fall under the misleading teachings of apostates , that is why he gave you the correct places to find correct teachings about JW. he did not want you to get misled by apostates. but Jehovah does not forbid his people from talking about the kingdom on the internet, but we have very good warnings about the people who hide what they really are . my main priority in life is to preach the Goodnews of the kingdom and that means everywhere i go . please dont be offended , but i feel that he was more than likely aware that you have had dealings with apostates, because when i read the posts from you when i first came on this site , i had seen it all before , and believe me we can recognize apostates teachings, when i say apostate i mean people who leave Jehovah and his people and do all in their power to turn others away from Jehovah. that is what an apostate is, but my aim is to direct people to the channel that Jehovah and Jesus are using and that is the same ones that your boss directed you too .................. All people get sick and die in this world ,even faithful christians it is a fact of this life . but JW are looking foreward to a new world where there will be no more sickness.
Jehovah God will completely reverse the awful condition of suffering, sickness, and death that has held mankind in its grip for thousands of years. No more sickness! No more disabilities! No more death! God "will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things [will] have passed away."—Revelation 21:3, 4.
And no resident will say: "I am sick." The people that are dwelling in [the land] will be those pardoned for their error.Isaiah 33;24 so my feeling is that you should take up the offer from your boss of the local kingdom hall , and go to the channel that Jesus is using. then you will be taking in good healthy spiritual food straight from the hand of Jesus .

I've related to you all before that my folks are SDA's. My Dad's a preacher, and we were missionaries. O.K., so my Dad is, like, a professional proselytizer. What he did before retiring was teach people how to hard sell religious books that the SDA's publish. What's really amusing is to watch him go toe to toe with a Witness. It's funny because both are lining up their rhetorical arguments based on what the other is saying, but neither is really listening to the point the other is making. Both probably come away thing "I showed him."

Chris

It's funny because both are lining up their rhetorical arguments based on what the other is saying
the point i see here is to not just blindly listen to scripture, whatever religion that you may be and turn it into rhetoric that causes you to have no thought on any matter. if it is truth, it will not go against the rest of scripture, it can be applied in every situation as the right thing to do. it is also alive, that is, it is true for you and everyone yesterday, today, and tomorrow. i can see if i was a different religion and what pastors were saying went against what god was telling me thru the bible and in my heart, i would probably have to think about that instead of being quick to regurgitate singled out scripture that got me mixed up in the first place, but that's just me.

quote] yes your boss is quite right to say that Jesus isnt God, Jesus is Gods only-begotten son as the bible tells us John 3;16-17
For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent forth his Son into the world, not for him to judge the world, but for the world to be saved through him. ..................and yes Jesus was given power to do many things as acts 10;38tells us .
namely, Jesus who was from Naz´a·reth, how God anointed him with holy spirit and power, and he went through the land doing good and healing all those oppressed by the Devil; because God was with him. ............. when the active force of God is with Jesus he did many powerful works.
In a very real sense Jesus healed and restored the health of many persons—the lame, the maimed, the blind, the dumb (Mt 15:30, 31), the epileptic, the paralytic (Mt 4:24), a woman suffering from a hemorrhage (Mr 5:25-29), one with a withered hand (Mr 3:3-5), a man with dropsy (Lu 14:2-4), and on many occasions those who were demon possessed were released from their Satanic enslavement and bondage.—Mt 12:22; 15:22-28; 17:15, 18; Mr 1:34; Lu 6:18; 8:26-36; 9:38-42; Ac 10:37, 38.

Jesus delegated this divine power of healing to others who were closely associated with him in his ministry. When the 12 apostles were sent out, and later the 70 disciples, they were empowered to cure the sick. (Mt 10:5, 8; Lu 10:1, 8, 9) After Pentecost of 33 C.E., certain ones, including Peter, John, Philip, and Paul, were given this divine power to heal completely. (Ac 3:1-16; 4:14; 5:15, 16; 8:6, 7; 9:32-34; 28:8, 9) After Christianity became firmly rooted, and with the passing of the apostles off the scene, such "gifts of healings" also passed away.—1Co 12:8, 9, 28, 30; 13:8, 13.
Now, however, there remain faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.1 corinthians 13;13

What a load. That would be like me saying Jehovah isn't the same God that Christians believe in...you wouldn't like that now would you Mee.

the bible tells me that the gifts of healing passed away . when Jesus heals in the future it will be real good, it will be on a very big scale , great things are ahead.
Now, however, there remain faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.1 corinthians 13;13
(Matthew 22:37) He said to him: "‘You must love Jehovah your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind.’
Jesus miraculous healing work served as a visible sign to his generation and gave added evidence of his Messiahship, as prophesied. (Mt 8:16, 17) It also foreshadowed the healing blessings that will be extended to mankind under God’s Kingdom rule. (Re 21:3, 4)
Today, not everyone recognizes the everlasting healing benefits made available through the ransom sacrifice of Christ.—1Pe 2:24

Hello mee--

The gift of healing has not passed away. I know. Jesus simply wasn't going to display certain signs anymore for an unbelieving crowd. My take (as a believer) and it can't be taken away.

InPeace,
InLove

I would REALLY like to know where in the bible it states that the gift of healing has passed away. I'll tell you what Mee. You show me that.
I have seen hundreds of cases of miraculase healings that doctors can't explain (several in my own family). I watched cancer disappear, broken bones mend, mental issues stabilize, all within hours or days, not months and years. Bonafied medical conditions that could not be corrected, gone.

You're beginning to sound like your Pastor Russel...

1 corinthians 13;13 sometime we get better ,sometimes we dont that is just the way it is at the momment, but when Jesus really heals it will be for everyone living on the earth not just a few.
Jesus healings were to serve as a sign to unbelievers, they were not ordinarily performed in behalf of those who were already spirit-begotten Christians. So when Timothy had stomach trouble, instead of performing a miraculous cure, Paul recommended that he take a little wine for his ailment.—1Ti 5:23.

Describing the result of this future healing activity, the book of Revelation says: God "will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." This is a reliable promise. There will be no disappointed hopes or deception, since God himself says: "Write, because these words are faithful and true."—Rev. 21:4, 5.

the main objective of Jesus’ ministry was not to heal the sick and perform other miracles. Rather, he made the preaching of the good news of God’s Kingdom his main work. (Matthew 9:35; Luke 4:43; 8:1) That Kingdom is the means by which God will accomplish the miraculous healing of mankind and undo all the damage that sin and imperfection have wreaked upon the human family.

Mee,

1 Cor 13: 13"And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love."

Doesn't answer the question at all. But let me help here.

John 14: 12 "I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these."

How is it possible to do greater works than Jesus did? Consider just a few of his miracles. He healed the blind. He made the lame walk. He raised the dead. He exorcized demons. He made the deaf hear. He made the mute talk. He cleansed leprosy and cured fever. He walked on water. He calmed the storm and multiplied food for crowds of 4,000 and 5,000, not including women and children. In other words, Jesus exercised power over nature, demons, disease, and death. So how does a man exceed Jesus' works? The answer lies in the simple yet profound truth...Grace.

All the signs and miracles that Jesus performed were a lead up to His ultimate miracle...redemption. The gift of God's Spirit and the forgiveness of sins both come about because of Jesus' sacrifice for man. After the Cross, Jesus' followers are sufused with the Holy Spirit and participate in the fulfillment of God's saving purposes. In fact, the works these believers "perform," which are the fruit of the salvation that Jesus grants (John 15: 5, 13 and 16), help others in the Christian new life (John 5: 21-25).

Hence, the works of Jesus' followers are of a greater quality, since they are the result of a promise kept. They reveal God's power in a special way, since every good work is made possible by what Jesus did both for the Twelve and for everyone who chooses to follow him.

They were not for the unbelievers, because the unbelievers would consider them of no value, merely parlor tricks or an amusing sleight of hand. Indeed their own magicians of the times could do certain of the same "tricks" up to a point.

Jesus' works and those of the followers after Him are for those who believe, or have the potential and or desire to believe on Jesus. They reinforce the subltle but undeniable power of Jesus.

Time and time again, the Apostles approach Jesus and ask why they could not act with His authority as He stated that would be able to, and time and time again, Jesus made it clear there were certain acts and attitudes that had to be in place (such as fasting for certain works, and the eternal insistence that they lean not on their own understanding). Other times they are vexed because those who do not walk with them are performing miracles in Jesus name. Again Jesus cautions them not to rebuke those that do so for they do it in belief of Jesus, therefore are right in their thinking (in other words, Jesus was warning them not to become possessive of Him or become arrogant in thinking they had the only right way of following Jesus, just because others were not part of their little click)...

This holds true today as well as then. However, the miracles have not stopped, haven't even slowed down. In fact they increase in number and effectiveness every day.

Joshua

jesus' is love and all things flow from that. the healing of the lame was just for those that needed to see with their own eyes the love and power of god, yet they still denied, and the more powerful work of jesus was spiritual such as the saving of souls. everything he did physically for us was just a limited and temporal representation of the new and eternal in heaven. if one can not believe in the son of god by healing the lame, how will they believe in spiritual things that cannot be seen? if there is no faith in jesus christ that thru him all things are possible, then you do not understand who he is and why he came.

Would we accept the title to a thread to be Witnessing to a Catholic? or a Methodist? or a Born Again?

How is it that we consider this acceptable?

after discussing the various miraculous gifts—prophesying, speaking in tongues, healing, and so on—that God had given various members of the first-century Christian congregation, the apostle Paul was inspired to say: "Whether there are gifts of prophesying, they will be done away with; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will be done away with. For we have partial knowledge and we prophesy partially; but when that which is complete arrives, that which is partial will be done away with."—1 Corinthians 12:28-31; 13:8-10.
Since no one today performs cures as Jesus did, are we at a disadvantage? Not at all. Actually, those healed by Jesus eventually could become sick again. They all grew old and died. The healing benefits they received were relatively short-lived. Yet, Jesus’ miraculous cures have lasting meaning in that they foreshadowed future blessings.
the main objective of Jesus’ ministry was not to heal the sick and perform other miracles.
Can you imagine what life will be like when the miraculous healing of mankind comes true? "No resident will say: ‘I am sick.’ The people that are dwelling in the land will be those pardoned for their error." Yes, God will accomplish what faith healers could never do. "He will actually swallow up death forever." Indeed, "the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will certainly wipe the tears from all faces."—Isaiah 25:8; 33:24.
