Howdy.

Once again, my enjoyment of the New Year and Spring is being slightly soured by the beauracratic paperwork nightmare of tax time. Bleeeech.

I've heard whispers over the past year about how the IRS and the federal income tax are unconstitutional. And this bit by George Carlin (parental advisory--explicit lyrics :D ) reinforces my urge to totally blow off filing a return this year. Do you think THEY will come get me? (Anyone on this forum work for the IRS? If so, you don't see me or hear me, okay? :p )

Look, I'm po'. I don't even owe any extra taxes. I'd get one of those fantabulous money-back return checks. So part of me wants that check, but mostly I don't wanna bother. I don't wanna spend two hours out of my life this year doing some corporation's bidding so that this system of corruption, domination, and money-laundering for war, war, war can be perpetuated. I've got better things to do, like take a shower, cook some good food, and go for a long walk.

Anyone know anything about this? Can you point me in any direction that will help me educate myself about this weird, shadowy, shady entity called the Internal Revenue Service? Service???!! Doesn't that blow you away? Where do they get off calling themselves a service? Really? Do you feel served by the IRS? And I ain't talkin' in a "you got served" sort of way. I mean I feel that. I feel like they own me for a short period every spring. If I'm not actively doing their BS bidding, it's somewhere in the back of my mind, festering. Which maybe points to the fact that I should just do it, get it over with, and collect my $200 for passing Go.

Heck, look how much time I took out of my day just to post this!  ;) :D

'Kay. End of rant.

For now.

Doing some research online. Found this and thought I would share:

Mr. Long's defense then presented the mission statement of the Internal Revenue Service, stating that the income tax relied upon "voluntary compliance" and a statement from the head of the alcohol and tobacco tax division of the IRS which showed that the income tax is 100% voluntary as opposed to the alcohol tax which is 100% enforced.

Pathless,

They are unconstitutional. However, if you do not pay the money you owe (not your situation), eventually, you will find yourself in front of a jury. If you can convince them you are right (it has been done), you are off scott-free. If you cannot, you go to jail.

I do not have the guts to try something like that.

By the way, I did not file for years, because I lived outside the country. (I did not owe the IRS a penny, so, like you, I said "phooey".) I then went through the painful process of filing all of those back returns. It cost me about 1,000 dollars, plus a lot of hassle. Even if you do not owe, the day may come when you wish you had filed.

My federal is done. Now for state....
