Burma

Hmmm...Might be better to collect the various posts and move them here. This is a clash between sacred and secular forces, and it isn't going to go away soon, IMHO.

I too am outraged. Our prime minister has said hell impose sanctions on the country but doesnt want to hurt the population of burma. and yes mw I think that if we discovered something as valuable as oil/diamonds over there, then we might (western society) have a lot more to do with it. Our political leaders only intervene when they think it will benefit them, not when its only something as mundane as lives that depend on it. I dont know exactly what to do about it myself. I'll email as many political leaders here that I can to intervene I guess. Any suggestions?????? love the grey

I've heard there are some sizable natural gas deposits. Maybe if we start talking that up, all over the net, some of the politicians will start to care.
Yes, I'm feeling a little cynical.

i no how u feel bobx. fair dinkum, if you have to attack the most passive people on the planet,(buddhist monks, for g-ds sake) you must be lower than ,,,,, I dunno . anything. Big men, they must be soooooo proud.NOT

Hi Grey

You sum up just how I feel. Our bloody political 'leaders' are doing the 'we will hold a meeting to discuss whether we should hold a meeting to discuss the issue' thing - while people are dying in the streets and monks are being tortured. We all dived into the middle east to 'deliver democracy' to people who never asked for it, yet these people are asking for it and we sit on our hands and get the calulators out to see if they have enough energy worth stealing, making it worth helping them. AAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH

and...does ANYBODY believe that this is a coincidence ?????

Firms seek access to Myanmar oil fields - Yahoo! News

Coincidence - my wobbly behind!!!!! I just feel so frustrated, I don't know whether to cry or go throw rocks through the embassy of Burma (and I usually object to such demonstrations).

China remains the sole influence. Add ur name to call for boycot of olympics till Burma is free!!

Where do I sign up Tao?

Never costs anything to ask, and I'd bet he'd give up his royalty shares for the cause. Of course...that would be a great slogan to sell to the Brit world and the Commonwealth nations. Here we might like something more along the line of ..." Bejing Olympics? BULLS**T !"

flow....

Re: "saffron revolution"?

..they've now closed all internet traffic coming from Burma... hundreds of monks have been badly beaten and some shot... chaos...

G-d is watching and listening. I know that doesn't seem like much, but over time, that's still the most important thing.

Re: Military junta in Burma

cant we do something.

there are various ways we can help, as individuals and as countries...

have a look here...maybe a donation...communications with political leaders...boycotting goods...boycotting support for other things (eg Chinese Olympics)

PLEASE NOTE: You do not have to be a UK citizen to donate to this:
