Hi All,

I noticed in the Obama speech thread that there's a lot of interest, pro and con, about Sarah Palin so I thought I'd start a thread.

I don't know much about her except the news that she is conservative, so off the bat I probably do not agree with her on many issues. I guess the one that disturbs me the most is that she would like to see ID taught 'in schools.' Maybe I'm not fully understanding her position, so maybe some of you here can enlighten me.

However, if she supports teaching creationism aka ID in the science classroom, it just makes me want to shake my head in dismay that our leaders can so misunderstand science.

As I understand it, she also favors the teaching of abstinence-only relative to sex ed in the schools. To put it bluntly, we can see how well that typically works simply by seeing how well that apparently worked in her own family. earl

I thought months ago she would be an excellent choice for McCain. Although everyone I talked to said "Who?" and thought I was nuts.

Now just from a republican perspective there us the female thing...like it or not a lot of Republican women went Hillary just because.. and when they got over there they heard a lot of Obama and didn't dislike what they heard. This choice leads them back to the Republican camp, and it will take some conservative Hillary Democrats as well.

I have issues with her pushing abstinence only and creationism, but she'll only get so far with that.

The reason I heard about her was her work on cleaning up Alaska's corruption...and then the mother of five, down's child, hunter, female, governor, mayor, dangerous jobs hubby, it all added upto a great poster for McCain. And now she gets the Juno vote, what will they think of next?

Palin is the biggest hypocrite. She claims to be a bible believing Christians and wants to bring moral values to American politics, yet her own daughter gets pregnant out of wedlock. I think first she should fix her own family before she tries to fix the country.

Palin is a hypocrite because her daughter got pregnant?? It happens to the best of us Abdillah. However in this country we don't stone folks for such indescretions. (litterally we don't, however figuratively folks in glass houses seem to be forgetting their place)

I personally am hoping that this causes her to rethink her abstinance stance.

It's an interesting choice. The advantage to governors is that they have executive experience with a very short political history to make drudge of. I know that she was the mayor of a small town before becoming governor, and I know that she ran Ted Stevens' 527 in a recent election cycle. I've been monitoring the talking points and attitudes on both sides since McCain announced his VP choice. The feeling amongst the net roots on the left is that she was never properly vetted, and thus a goldmine of gaff doo may lay just beneath her unfamiliar surfaces. The righties seem to love her. My hunch is that she's one skeleton away from blowing McCain sky high.

I wonder what Ms. G. Ferraro thinks. I can't wait to see the feminists swarm on this woman. And yes, I'm still watching the Clintons out of the corner of my eye.

Just caught the end of Lieberman's speech at the RNC. He, unfortunatley, is not a charismatic speaker. But I like him. I think he would have been a good VP choice. I was pulling for him when he ran for Pres. candidate. But, I like Obama anyway, so it's moot.

If he thinks he's appealing to the average feminist, McCain missed the mark. It does seem like a slap to women with a lot stronger experience.

I haven't really had time to do any independent research on Sarah Palin, but from what I can tell she's a real up-and-comer. She may not be Obama, but, like him, she's riding a white hot political star. For some reason she gets the social conservatives all giddy. She's a home schooler, go figure.

Conservative and home-schooling often go hand-in-hand, I think.

Yeah, and that sorta seems to go with the God, Guns, and Glory thing somehow. Even the pregnant seventeen year old daughter hearkens back to that pioneer spirit of women breeding at fourteen and dying in childbirth on the wagon trail. That was when men were men, and everyone knew their place.

Lieberman is a hardcore zionist. The reason he switched parties was because he thinks democratic party is not doing enough to support the Jews against the Muslims. He doesn't give a hoot about America or domestic American issues. His sole concern is America always being there to help the Jews, no matter how many Muslim countries you have to invade and plunder.

And of course you have sources to back up these allegations?

I like her, so what if her daughter is pregnant and not married, these are peoples lives and they are not perfect.

If I was in the USA I would definitely vote for them :)

It is all sort of moot for this third party voter as well. I'll be voting Libertarian, but do find it interesting how many shots are being taken at Sarah...it is always an indication of worth and concern.

I also find it interesting the comparisons between her and Obama re experience, drug use, trooper gate vs. Obama's ties with felons. Makes me wonder who is running against who...

Yeah I bet more people will tune in to hear her speak tonight than McCain tomorrow.:p She's more interesting. earl

Sarah, you go girl! You are a woman of fine quality and character and the sleaze must try to pull you into the gutter with them. You've already inspired a minority of people to awaken to the sleaze and hypocrisy so you are now one of those that are scorned as much as loved. It cannot be any other way when dealing with quality and character.

It is a shame that the race makes it impossible but I was watching Obama shoot baskerts and he's got a nice outside shot. I never saw Sarah play guard but if her name in basketball is "Sarah barracuda" she must compete like Steve Nash.

A one on one competition between Sarah Palin and Barack Obama as a pay per view charity event would have raised millions for a neutral charity like the Red Cross,

Ok, listened to most of her speech-heading to bed. Don't plan to listen to McCain-she's more interesting. Impressions: she came across well. But after listening to Obama who, though great orator he is, was basically putting forth standard Democratic views, and Palin, who did a nice job of the hockey mom, just regular Joan, but putting forth likewise standard Republican views, this is my political prediction-the majority of the voting public after 8 years of Bush-led Republican views isn't going to assume more standard Republican stuff is going to feed the bulldog.:) earl
