Folks sometimes get all up in arms...

...get their panties in a twist

...when someone disagrees or says something that they don't like...

When none of us really know...

... and most of it is an opinion or rambling thought.


To ease matters, should end my phone posts and comments with IMHO or 'and thus sayeth the Lord'?

I should think everyone already realizes what gets posted here is opinion driven. Even the validity of certain facts and how they apply to a particular topic. Disagreements are inevitable though. As is heated debates when emotions run high. Posting additional disclaimers won't really help. I do think however, that a little proof-reading for punctuation, spelling and grammar before hitting the post button would help to avoid misunderstandings and get one's point across much better.

i've generally gotten out of the habit of announcing that my views are, in fact, my views and not anyone else's nor should they be taken as authoritative. i encourage everyone to read the original texts for themselves and form their own conclusions.

for years, however, i would caveat my longer doctrinal posts with just such a thing. it is a bit tiresome that dialog online often comes down to such conventions.

I also tend to keep my theology to myself, as it tends to fall on hard ground ... and spend most of my efforts simply correcting errors and misconceptions.
 
Yeah I keep my particular spirituality mostly to myself as well. I think I've given enough that most people have a handle on where I stand, and that is enough.

To Wil's point, it is not uncommon for me to say it is my opinion when that is what I am stating. If only to point out the difference between when I am stating my views versus when I am stating facts.
 
Very true. From My Point of View this is often because too many people in this country today mix up the definitions between opinions and facts. Especially amongst our neanderthal politicians. I hear this all the time these days. The politician says "Well, that's your view, it's not my opinion" & the reporter practically wants to scream "It's Not a view, it's a fact!"
 
I've learned to keep my hands on the table and my big mouth shut (mostly.) It all depends on the audience (although I have trouble "reading" some people, especially members of the indigent community that hang out on or around campus.) There are a few who don't realize that their version of religion is highly skewed (thinking/expressing the opinion that the Talmud is a Satanic text... *facepalmheaddeskwallbuilding*)

I've discussed religion with a few Mormon elders (albeit not as well as my late father) as well as a couple of Sikhs and a couple of Discordians (my rl friends Tyler and Dr. America [PhD, not MD].) Then there were my former next-door neighbors from the west side of town who were willing to discuss some things with my family, but not everything (they're Baptists.)
