Agreed. Good questions. I think everyone should ask them. It's important that we are honest with ourselves as to why we do what we do. Ever read Thomas Moore? Care of the Soul? The Soul's Religion? Original Self? You might like him. He's my favorite. Exactly. Art. Poetry. Mythology. Write...

    Ex-SDA

Hey Chris. Thanks for sharing that. It sounds similar to my story as a JW in many ways. Question: Does that (the above) make it (the 'thing' ;)) more or less true for you?

    A Second Chance?

I decided to look up the verse on Crosswalk. I read it in the English Standard Version and the Revised Standard Version. Both versions word the translation a bit differently than that which you posted. The ESV says: 25 Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in...

Creationism Is Paganism, says Vatican Astronomer

I'm confused. I don't see Chris attacking the Catholic church. I see him asking why certain denominations don't feel that Catholics are Christian. It's a question I see brought up on Tweb all the time. One thread was even entitled something like "Christians versus Catholics." Evangelical...

Have You Read the Entire Bible

I haven't read the entire Bible, every word, cover to cover. I almost have several times though. I've probably read about 90% of it. I've read certain books multiple times.

    What is needed...

Exactly. What I see causing problems is that people are quick to take offense at an opinion, and then instead of discussing the opinion, motives for posting are impuned, and veiled (and not so veiled) personal attacks are made. Leave peoples motives out of it. Give them the benefit of the...

Creationism Is Paganism, says Vatican Astronomer

I'm attracted to Traditional Christianity for many reasons. Ritual is a big part. I appreciate the focus on mystery and mysticism, the importance of religious experience. I was attracted to the Witnesses for the reason any person is attracted to any very conservative (fundamentalist)...

Jokes, jokes, and more jokes ...

(If there is a joke thread on the board, I apologize, as I couldn't find it.) A wife was making a breakfast of fried eggs for her husband. Suddenly, her husband burst into the kitchen. "Careful," he said, "CAREFUL! Put in some more butter! Oh my GOD! You're cooking too many at once...

Creationism Is Paganism, says Vatican Astronomer

It's my understanding that the RCC has always held a metaphorical/historical view of the Scriptures.

Creationism Is Paganism, says Vatican Astronomer

In the past JW's believed RC was Babylon the Great. I don't know if they believed RC was the anti-Christ. On the record - I'm seriously considering converting to Catholicism. I'm torn. I'm also interested in the Episcopal church. It will be one or the other. I felt I had to say that, in the...

Creationism Is Paganism, says Vatican Astronomer

As I understand it, Catholicism is the largest Christian denomination. That fact alone would make a literal interpretation of Genesis (YEC) a minority view. That is not speaking as to whether YEC is a correct or incorrect view, just that it is a minority view. :)

The same spammer has been hitting a few of the other religious forums that I frequent as well. Your idea is a great one and I might recommend it (if you don't mind).

My only experience with it would be through the writings of those like Richard Dawkins and those I've experienced on other bulletin boards.

    Renamed to Alternative

Um yeah. Eckhart, Merton, de Mello ... they don't have anything to do with new age, but I guess that is in the eye of the beholder.
