a figment of your imagination
Now some say I'm not big on Tradition...and others will say we've modified Tradition...but I'm wondering what is your Tradition?

For us it was communion, scripture reading on Maundy Thursday and foot washing.

For Good Friday it was a Tenebrae service...

The Tenebrae Service dated back t the fourth century in the Christiand Church, Tenebrae means "darkness" or "shadows". In our Unity observation of a Tenebrae Service, the lighted candles are gradually extinguised as a reminder of the darkness that came upon the Earth during the events leading upto and including the crucifixion.

The extinguising of the candles represents the eliminating of the positive aspects or the "misuses" of our Twele Powwers of the Christ-in-the-making facutlies within each of us.

Love - represented by John, when turned away from the Christ becomes selfish, clinging, unwise.

Faith = Peter - when turned away from the Christ places its trust in the world of appearance.

Strength - Anderw, when turned away from the Christ curshes rather than lifts, destroys rather than builds.

Judgement = James, sond of Zebedee, when turned away from the Christ is harsch, unforgiving, and dispenses punishment rather than mercy.

Power = Phillip, when turned away from the Christ is like the river run wild, unchanneled, spilling over ists banks.

Imagination = Bartholomew, when turned away from the Christ is prey to fear, builds a dark, terrible life, rather than a light and lovely one.

Understanding = Thomas, when turned away from the Christ becomes shallow speculation, concerns itself with trivia

Will = Mathew, when turned away from the Christ becomes our little personal will, not G!d's perfect will; our human way rather than G!d's infinite way.

Order - James, sond of Alpheus, when turned away from the Christ is defined beautifully as "the chaos you become whenever G!d's hand does not rest upon your head."

Zeal = Simon, when turned away from the Christ becomes fanaticism, misguided enthusiasm which dires up like a riverbed in a drought.

Reununciation = Thaddeus, when turned away from the Christ is morbid, strict practices eliminating the Turth to accept less than good.

Life = Judas, when turned away from the Christ betrays true life, tires to manipulate the Christ into establishing a kingdom after this world, rather than a kingdom after His kingdom.

so while reading scripture from the last supper, through the garden and the denials of Peter....the candles are exinguished....with the last one extinguished as Jesus hangs on the cross...

we leave candles lit around the room, representing the faithful...which from the Christ within...relight all the candles and let the light shine again...

Tradition, despite it all, I never tire of this service.

To continue....our Easter Tradition, is to contemplate how we've decided to take the cup, take the challenge and crucify portions of ourcellves that don't serve, and resurect anew...

None of us are the same as we were ten, twenty years ago. As we go thru time and attempt to 'put on the mind of Christ' we need to shed our old self, go thru our time in the wilderness, in the desert, in the belly of the big fish, or in the tomb...and discover the new/real self.
