Hi guys,

I've been looking for a moderate and calm forum discussing religious ideas on the interweb and I've found you.

The tone of the discussions is very important for me because I'm not agressive or combative. I' on a journey live everybody else and it would be good to have some friends along the way.

I'd call myself a Christian, I do go to a church and I'm happy to stay where I am. Its a strong non-trinitarian tradition that places a huge emphasis on the second-coming, however, I'm in the process of re-thinking the nature of Jesus and would like to discuss this subject sometime...

As for calm, moderate, and non-combative--we are a motley crew here, (anything but moderate,) and we do challenge each other's arguments, but not really in a hateful way. After all, we are all in the same boat.

These days this isn't a very active place; mostly posts by a small number of people and a larger number of bots. Personally I find it hard to tell the difference. I'm reasonably sure seattlegal is not a bot, is well informed on Christianity (amongst other things) and is easy-going (unless riled up deliberately ).

For me, I know very little and can be safely ignored.

There are moderators, so if somebody gets mean you can flag a moderator. The intent of the forum is for people of different faiths to talk about who they are and ask questions. It is an open communication channel. People are always changing, and there are misunderstandings. Often there are false stereotypes. Discussion can provide a way both to understand and to deal with old offenses. Also a lot of people feel that it is a good idea to learn things from people with other religious backgrounds.

If you want to put forward information about Jesus without getting shouted down then that is fine. What riles people up is when a poster tells them 'How it is' and what is 'So' as opposed to their point of view. If someone disagrees with you, it does not make them 'Wrong'. Yes, they could be wrong, but all you can say is that you disagree. A few years ago there were some fairly heated arguments here between trinitarians and non trinitarians, and it was tolerated because to some degree it was an interfaith discussion. Its hard to know how to moderate something like that without silencing someone's point of view. If you are a friendly poster (not attacking or insinuating), then you should expect backup from other posters when someone gets nasty. If your point of view starts getting squelched by troll activity, then you should expect the mods to help you.
