QUESTION: was this childhood experience proof of God, time travel, or a tumor?

THE EXPERIENCE: When I was a young man (17) I had what I thought was a dream in which I saw my future children. I won't give you the particulars except to say that one of the children was handicapped and there were other characteristics that I noticed such as hair color, behavior, personality, etc. When I awoke, I felt strongly that this was not a normal dream so I wrote it down in my journal. Years later, when my children began to be born, I noticed that they matched precisely those in my dream, including their birth order, the handicapped child, and the other physical and personality characteristics I noted.

THE QUESTION: What the heck was that?!! Is this proof of God, a convergence of some Star Trek-ish space time continuum, or what? I have wondered about this all my life and would appreciate some sincere opinions. And please don't just say, "yeah, its God" and just leave it at that. I want explanations please. If you think its God, explain why. If you think its proof I am an alien, explain why. If you think I am a prophet, explain why (and send your donation to...).

Ok, I phrased the above a bit silly, but the question is sincere. I'd love your insight.
 
I don't have my "childhood" journal anymore, but I re-wrote the dream into my "young adult" journal about 4 years before I married and started my family, so yes, I still have it.
 
And your data....you say jives real close? how close? 100%....any other dream predictions in that journal?

You could have the start to a book...the investigation of your information...by psychiatrist, psychologist, tarot reader, psychic, Catholic Priest, etc... I'd detail every encounter discussing this.
 
My journal details are very accurate. In fact, after my second son was born with his handicap, that's when I dug out my journal and began to watch closely thereafter when each child was born. By the time my second daughter (4th child) was born, I told my mother on the way to the hospital that she would have dark brown hair and eyes. I then told her about my dream (hadn't told anyone up to that point except my wife).

No, I'm not interested in having it "researched" or in writing a book or anything like that. I'm just curious to what people might attribute it. I have wondered over the years whether I should consider it proof that there is a God, or proof that "man" is capable of transcending time, etc. I want to believe it is proof of the existence of God, but it "feels" more like evidence that it is possible to know future events (ie evidence that there are senses that man has but doesn't understand).

As an interesting side note, my father has accurately predicted the gender if all of his children and grandchildren, but has never explained "how" he knows.
 
Proof of G!d? For me it is part and parcel as I believe we have access to all knowledge future as well since it is theorized that time is a manmade construct and it actually all happens at once...tis us that creates the linear...

But again....as you ask, keep a the journal...
 
Your response suggests my experience is proof of God AND also proof of some physical phenomenon that man cannot explain, and that they are "part and parcel" the same. Thank you, I appreciate the perspective.

It sounds to me like you have the beginnings of psychic ability. I believe that all of us will develop psychic abilities before we achieve enlightenment, so if this is indeed what is happening, I do not see anything unnatural about it. (I have known several great psychics in my life, they were excellent human beings, and I see nothing wrong with being psychic. I hope you don't either.)

However, I do not see your baby-steps towards psychic abilities as proof of God.

But how do you feel about perhaps beginning to develop psychic abilities?
 
Thank you for your reply. It sounds like you believe my experience is proof of some physiological phenomenon that man cannot explain, as opposed to proof of the existence of God. Thank you for your comments.
 
I'm going with natural phenomenon.....not supernatural... as I believe it is all natural and explainable, simply waiting for science to catch up and figure it out.

I don't buy G!d as being with any human traits....I believe G!d as principle, as overlying aspect that is within everything holding everything in place....TOE...

I don't believe in psychic ability....only abilities that we don't understand when one accesses knowledge that we don't have at our fingertips.

When you say you 'rewrote the dream' years later do you mean you copied the original word for word? Or do you mean you rewrote it a second time from memory.

If the former, then some interesting questions do indeed arise.
If the latter, a host of issues come up that make any determination much more difficult to have much reliability.

Writing the original years later is almost guaranteed to contain info that was not in the original. It is the human condition to make correlations, to add pieces, to reorder events in order for the dream to make sense.

There is nothing conscious about people doing this. The mind simply has a need to 'fill in the gaps', and will do so quite without your conscious awareness.

It is why people who do want to remember their dreams learn to wake up and write down the dream as soon as it happened. That is the only reliable way one can have a fair faith that the dream was recorded accurately.

In either event as to what it was? Who can say any better or worse than you? Like Wil, I do not believe in supernatural events. Like Wil, I DO believe that there are forces within our reality that can cause some some far out things to happen. That we do not understand these forces yet does not mean they are not real. (Of course, it doesn't mean they are real, either!).
 
I wrote it down when I was 17, and that journal was subsequently lost. I re-wrote it about 5 years later. I am sure that I didn't re-write it word for word exactly as I had the first time, but the specifics were written clearly. Note: this was still years before the first child was born.

CC, are you Christian, perhaps a born-again Christian? Are you uncomfortable with the idea of perhaps having latent psychic abilities?
 
To Nick: Yes, I am Christian. I'm not sure how I might feel about having psychic abilities, if that's what this was. I suppose I accept that there are abilities which man may possess, which he does not fully understand. The whole idea of man only using a small percentage of his brain has always made me wonder what the rest of it was for. Being Christian, I was hoping to gain some insight into this experience from a religious perspective. I have always wondered if this experience should be taken as "proof" of the existence of God, or merely of some ability that man has which is not yet fully understood. CC
 
CC, I do not see this as "proof" of God, but I suppose there are other people who do. For example, I imagine that some people would see your visions as a miracle, and thus "proof" of God.

It seems this search of yours weighs upon you heavily. But it has been said that, for those who believe, no proof is necessary, and for those who do not believe, no proof is possible. Perhaps meditating on this idea will bring you some relief.

While dreams and other phenomena can't prove the existence of God to the outside world, I believe they can bear witness of God in the heart of the person experiencing them. What I like about this dream is the slow unveiling it required in order to be seen as truly prophetic. This, to me, is like the way God works. He is very patient and tends to reveal himself to his creatures slowly, over time, as they are able to bear it. There is no hurry, everything just develops as it should.

First there is the dream, then the unpacking of it in linear existence. Each detail manifested builds upon the one preceding it, creating more faith that the dream may in fact be true, until at last it is all fulfilled, and you know. Faith becomes sight.

In a way I wish I'd had that dream, but it's yours alone. No one could have had it but you. The most interesting part, I think, is what comes next? Where do you (or did you) go from there? Was the dream part of what led you to faith?
 
If you believe in reincarnation and past lives then this would make a lot more sense. I mean the yogis of Tibet who have truly reached Englightenment have been able to remember their past lives as well as look at their future lives. So you might have tapped into memories of your future from that specific dreams. Also, I'd like to point out that as civilized as humanity is at this point, I believe we're far from figuring out what our dreams truly mean and of what importance there is to them. I'm not sure if you believe in everything I've said above, but that's just my two cents.
