Another Media "Star" Passed

James Thurston Nabors passed away at the tender age of 87.

"Who?" you ask?

Jim Nabors, best known for his character Gomer Pyle, but was involved in several other shows/characters, plus he was a rather pleasant baritone (he recorded several albums, at least one going platinum.) I believe that he knew both of my maternal great uncles (mom's maternal uncles) but don't quote me here.

Here's his filmography: http://m.imdb.com/name/nm0001561/?ref=m_nv_sr_1

Two from the Euroside.

Christine Keeler passed, aged 75, from pulmonary complications.

A model and showgirl, from our more enlightened vantage we can see that Keeler was procured and groomed by the British establishment (her story reads like everything that's wrong with the English class system) for the entertainment of its members.

She was central to a scandal that rocked the government when, in '63, it came to light that she was having an affair with John Profumo, a government minister, and Yevgeny Ivanov, a KGB spy resident in the UK. This was at the height of the Cold War.

The scandal runs even deeper than that, but that's a story for another day ...

The other is France's own Elvis ... Johnny Hallyday. Aged 74, lung cancer.

He shot to fame in the 60s singing pop in French, going on to sell 100 million records and star in movies, but never cracked it outside France.

Not too familiar with either, but here's one from way back of Mr. Hallyday I found.
Don't understand French, but it's pretty...

Here Aussie...me thinks you'll understand more of this one... Give me that old time Rock and Roll....and the crowd does appear to love him...

I got to see Victor Borga, first as a kid, second time 20 years later, third time when he was 86... He did a two n half hour show... W/o intermission... At 86... And all gloriously familiar pieces...the entire audience knew most every bit and as soon as he starred the next one would start laughing again... My eyes were crusty from the salt left from evaporation of tears and laughter

Bruce Brown passed away at the tender age of 80 of natural causes.

"Who?" you ask?

He was best known for surfing documentaries back in the late 1950s-early 1970s. He was actually part of the surfing subculture, participating in the sport even before he started filming it, legitimizing it by overwriting the trash that other people in the film industry tried to pass off as "surfer culture".

Here's his filmography as well as his bio: http://m.imdb.com/name/nm0113164/?ref=m_nv_sr_2
