Here is a term I had not heard before: Hispanic nones. This refers to the number of Hispanic American “nones” — those who say they have no particular religion, or are atheist or agnostic — is.

This is an article about how the number of Hispanic nones in America is rising quickly (and will no doubt have political ramifications).

Even more important is the fact that the number of Hispanics in America continues to rise whereas the number of "white people" actually continues to drop. I think there's a chance Spanish will become the official language in America in a couple of centuries. I think it's only a matter of time before this completely changes how presidential elections are run.

But there is another factor: money. By far, most rich people in America are "white". I wonder how long it will be before the percentage of rich whites vs. rich Hispanics in America begins to shift.

Re: Post #3

Personal opinion: I beg to differ. Two centuries? It will most likely be much sooner. Ultimately it will not matter though. ¿ que importa? Our culture will change rapidly and we will simply become a homogenous society. Two centuries may well see semi-global homogenization to a significant extent. Certainly never completely. I make these observations based on the changes that have occurred during my lifetime. I have no references to site. Experienced observation only.

As to religion - once a Catholic...

While yes, our hispanic population continues to increase, so does their mixing in our society...learning english and inter marriage. While the adults are often hampered by not learning the language, their kids go to school and they do learn the language... beyond that the language of banking and trade is english (at one time thought we were headed to french or chinese...) so unless the states become a completely minor trade power, it is not likely to change... my opinion.

Not so sure Wil. We have had many ethnic minorities have their moment in the spotlight here in America. But this is the first time a minority is so important that everything in this country is now given in both English and Spanish. That has never happened before. That more than anything points to the growing importance of the Hispanic culture here in this country. There will be a time, probably sooner than later where we will be a true multilingual society. To get by, most people will need to speak both languages.

Whether or not this translates into wealth and power I do not know. Certainly some major players in politics today are of Hispanic descent. Marco Rubio. Or are pretend Hispanic, like Jeb Bush (who married an Hispanic).

everything is English and Spanish? When I go into Chinatown, there is a lot of Chinese writing and sometimes zero English for some establishments. Similarly in Muslim sections of town, I can only read the word Halal... While I do know where you are going, it seems to me in 20 years technology will take over the learning of language with our cell phones or whatever apparatus we call it at the time will be translating from dozens of languages for us on the fly.

exactly...except I am speaking of this being widely available...like the cell phone... we've already seen the change in voice recognition...

Story on both counts... In the construction and farming industries there are a huge number of hispanics who have not assimilated, not learned the language and are beholdin to a 'foreman'. This leader brings the team, he communicates with el jefe and translates the instructions to the workers. They need to have a translator with them, who knows what bribery, extortion, remuneration actually occurs to keep them employed... So the foreman of a painting crew asks me about local eateries for lunch...I tell him there is x y and z around the corner... he says "Chipotle" where is it? So I take his iphone and ask Siri "Directions to Chipotle" she says no entiende, que? I repeat, 'Directions to Chipotle' she repeats...the foreman says "Chipotle" (no detectable difference to my ear) and Siri begins to give him directions in Spanish... El jefe no intiende ...
