Hi
I am new here, I have a few questions. I have been looking into Baha'i Faith for some time. I find its scripture most moving inspiring and spiritual and the concept, of progressive revelation, independent search for truth, the oneness of God, the unity of man,, the emphasis on service to humanity and to the cause the teaching against prejudice and the unification of the planet, all great and wonderful.
My questions are more on how to understand and/or reconcile certain Baha'i teachings and prophecies. For example, I am very, indeed extremely, familiar with several other faiths and some of the claims that Baha'i books have made as to some sayings and/or prophecies of these religions referring to Bahaullah are definitely, to be kind, not true or at least not really understood correctly. In the Zoroastrian faith, for example, Baha'i books keep on talking about Shah Behram and that the prophecy of his coming refers to Baha'u'llah. Unfortunately, that is NOT a Zoroastrian scriptural prophecy. The prophecy about Shah Behram is not recorded, in any part of the Avesta and especially not in the Gaathas, which are the core of the religious doctrine in Zoroastrianism, being the only extant work of Zarathushtra. Rather the story of Shah Behram, was pushed by Zoroastrian mobeds (priests) in the 10th Century and under Arab rule. They did this in an effort to give hope to people that were despairing under Muslim rule, and leaving the faith.
Then there is the matter of the Shoghi Effendi stating that the Guardianship was vital to the the Administrative Order, so vital in fact that he states that:
1. " The twin pillars that support the mighty Administrative Structure -- the institutions of the Guardianship and of the Universal House of Justice" Shoghi Effendi. The World Order of Baha'u'llah, p. 147
2. "Institution of Guardianship, head cornerstone of the Administrative Order of the cause of Baha'u'llah ..." Shoghi Effendi. Messages to America. p -8
3. "Divorced from the institution of the Guardianship, the World Order of Baha'u'llah would be mutilated and permanently deprived of that hereditary principle which, as Abdul Baha has written has been invariably upheld by the Law of God ... Without such an institution the integrity of the faith would be imperiled and the stability of the entire fabric would be greatly endangered ... " Shoghi Effendi The World Order of Baha'u'llah p- 148
Baha'u'llah himself states: "Unto every one hath been enjoined the writing of a will." Kitab-i-Aqdas paragraph 109
My question about the Guardianship then is how can Mr. effendi not have left a will? True he had no progeny, but certainly he could have adopted some one. So how do Baha'i satisfactorily solve this problem since the Guardian already has estated that withouth the Guardianship the faith would be mutilated and its integrity imperiled?
Finally I want to understand some prophecies or predictions of Abdul Baha. In The Coming Kingdom of God by Esselmont, he cites Abduk Baha's interpretation of the last two verses of Daniel as: "The 1335 days being 1335 solar years, to be counted from Mohammed's flight to Medina in 622 AD when added this would yield 1957, which Abdul Baha the says would be when universal peace will be firmly established a universal language would be promoted, ... The bBaha'i Cause would be promoted in all parts and the oneness of mankind established ..."
Also in AbduL Baha in Canada. p- 35 Abdul baha says that the permanent peace of the world: " ... will be established in the Twentieth century ..."
I am a bit confused what is the correct interpretation of these prophecies or are they evn prophecies?
Thanks for your patience, I want to emphasize that I do not mean to offend or question the credibility of either UHJ nor of the Master.
