When I was in the hospital for my gall bladder a few years back, I learned there is a such thing as an "IV specialist" in this case a nurse who does almost exclusively that I guess. They had trouble with my veins due to dehydration plus they've always been small... so they called her and waited for her...May you have an easier time getting the IV needle in than it was for me (my veins "jumped"/"collapsed"/caused no end of problems for the staff at the surgical center here.) It took around eight people to get everything in/straightened out.
