Spiritual Hooligan

One comment mentions narcissism. That was a thought I had while reading the post, too - thriving on chaos, having fun with drama... I tend to avoid that kind of personality.

Meditation, curiosity and questioning otoh: yes and amen!

Where does said chaos come from...the drama I fully well know 3,000 differing denominations and sects upset that you don't dance to their tune..

I don't know, but I've known people who create chaos around them, out of some need, boredom or inner emptiness, and then thrive on that chaos.

NB I am not saying Matthew Ferry does that. It was just his terse bullet point about thriving on chaos that made me remember.

Give him 30 yrs to boil down 30 points to three points, then I might start to have a tiniest bit if interest in this man's deep wisdom ...

I prefer this Matthew:

Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

(Ok, that's eight.)

Proverbs 3:5-7
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. (Three)

Micah
Do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with thy God. (Three)

ie: humble

EDIT: Ok, there's going to be a reaction against 'fear the Lord' but it means to act in the presence of God, fear the (karma) consequence of wrong action, imo

I love this exchange, from the comments section on the above blog extract:

Sounds more like narcissism to me

Matthew NOVEMBER 29, 2018
Thank you for your comment Sam. You are right. For the traditional spiritual initiate who is still burdened by the mind, this does sound like narcissism. As my mind went quiet over the last decade, I was confronted by the dogma of my spiritual teachers who followed the rules of their teachers without ever taking the time to put their ideas to the test.

One of those rules is being humble. This was a very valuable tool for the egocentric initiates of the past. But as we enter this new era, making yourself lower or less than (the actual meaning of humble) is actually an impediment to achieving a connection with the infinite. The next phase ...

(I'm still laughing):p

I saw that one too.

I don't want to be too quick to judge, and narcissists have made "good" use of humility in the past.

Especially the enlightened ones, lol

Why Enlightenment Is So Damn Good For Business ...

... #1: You don’t get upset with clients or other people in the business. When you experience oneness, not much ruffles your feathers ... etc

... I highly encourage you to go through my Rapid Enlightenment Process. The best way to start is to download the first six chapters of my new book Quiet Mind Epic Life.

They are my gift to you ...

Yeah, I tend to your opinion as well.

He has one worthwhile point, which is his appeal to get one's life in order. Spirituality can become this weird dysfunctional coping strategy when faced with mundane problems.

LOL. I'd love to know how many feathers he ruffled, but then, where you're so spiritually cool and connected and together, it's their hard luck if they're not as enlightened, tuned in and turned on as you ...

Ah, I get it now. Consumerism has rewritten the rulebook!

It might be worthwhile he does a little research into the philosophy of humility, rather than the pursuit of prosperity ... of course, I'm assuming he sees 'spirituality' in terms of material prosperity.

The next phase is owning your experience and making no qualms about it...
Thus entirely missing the point that experience is the meeting with the other-than-self ...

Oooh, I'm Mr Grumpy-bumps this morning.

If you attend his seminar, you get to hear him play guitar. It's his gift to you:

Move over Jimmy Page. I wonder if he rides a motorbike down hotel corridors like Led Zeppelin? Now that would be fun spiritual hooliganism

You all sound quite jealous.
Perhaps. But why do I find this guy a bit of the wrong one to be smirking at the gullibility and suggestibility of ordinary 'religious' folk?
