Man playing God?

This content creator makes the point that what has happened is really something like a new breed of wolf, maybe not much different than the selective development of dog breeds but condensed in time. He points out that the company that did this is trying to create a bank of the DNA of existing animal species now before any more go extinct, and he thinks it is a good idea.

Indeed, we are facing a period of extinction that is driven by us humans. It's certainly a good idea to create a library of the genetic code of living animals, even recently extinct animals.

But the crucial point is that all animals and plants, fungi, bacteria need a place to live and a role in all.
Big animals have always been extinct first when humans populated the area, because they formerly had no predators to fear and could live with a low proliferation rate. There is a low ecological risk going out from the re-establishment of the species because we could easily extinct them again. But there's only little chance that they find a place to live and really play an ecological role again. Further, assuming that Mammoths were somehow similar to Elephants : Elephants have a culture and a tradition. They learn from the prior generation. A group of human children set out anywhere in the world would have no language, no experience, no parent; they would probably just die. They might survive if they grow up in a community of Bonabos. But Indian Elephants can't educate a Mammoth because they are adapted to a different climate.

Small animals might have a sufficient instinct, but we have no knowledge about their role in all, where they would be ecologically beneficial, nocive or chanceless; as they are extinct, it's probably because they lost the environment they were made for.

We should care for the existing animals. It's good to have a library or a museum that preserves the heritage of a people before it was extinct by genocide, but a genocide would better be prevented. It's the same with other living creatures.
