Spiritual Warfare

There is an unseen battle brewing. A battle that has been transpiring for centuries and ages passed. This battle, I believe has become more obvious to men of God through the years. Yet now, as we come close to the end of the age, the battle has not only become obvious, it has also become witnessed and seen! The battle of which I speak is a war. A war of the mind, a war for your soul, this is the nature of Spiritual Warfare.

Ages ago, with the fall of Lucifer and his minions, the Almighty God well within phase two of his Divine plan for a family created yet again. He created an immortal world on earth with everything we now see, i.e. trees, animals, seas, etc. All this he created in six days, and on the sixth day, he made man. As expected from God, all was good until that fateful day of "the tempting" and the banishment from Eden's garden. From that day up till ours, the battle has been waged.

Satan knowing his time is short comes to wage war against us (all humans). Also knowing he can not win, he spites God by causing God's own precious beings to be separated from God forever through sin. This being truth, God has saved us with the greatest love sacrifice Ever! He sent his son Jesus to die for us all. We have been brought with a price, and now, if we so choose, have a chance at eternal life through Jesus.

Satan, still full of hate continues to wage war. Even while knowing that he has already lost the war, he continues in a vain effort to spite God. Pride has been and still is Satan's biggest folly. Consider the various ways that the devil and his demons have waged wars with us throughout the ages.

Pride- this characteristic can be attributed to its source--Satan. Our enemy himself thought he could be greater than his creator (God) and in turn fell from grace, and became our archenemy. The devil will use pride as a tool to get us to feel like we are better than someone else. This will cause us to take on the attributes of an atheist, racist, or persons of certain prejudices. All these things will lead to sin, which will lead to eternal life away from God in hell.

Hate- One of the worst and perhaps the strongest characteristics of the devil. Hate, when induced will blind a person from truth. A person of great hate will become prideful and will harden his heart from knowing any truth. The devil will use hate to fuel a person into great rage, to cause acts of great and terrible calamities. An example of great hate is Adolph Hitler. He was so hateful that he became prideful and thought himself, as well as blond hair blue eye whites to be the superior race. Remember! No man is better than another. If you were tricked into hate, through spiritual battle, repent and seek forgiveness. If you were the one which the wrong or hateful act was done against, forgive as Jesus forgives. This may be hard to do because of great and painful acts done to us, however I ask you to remember Jesus' words on the cross. Jesus said, "forgive them father, for they know not what they do." True love conquers hate!

Ignorance- Ah! What a tricky adversary we have in Satan. Our enemy will use ignorance to cause us to become of such:

A. Atheist- one that has no belief in God. The fool says in his heart there is no God.

B. Believer in False Gods or God- Jesus said: "I am the WAY the TRUTH and the LIFE." Not a way, a truth, or a life." Any other way is a lie. Satan knowing this, will use false religions to lead us away from Jesus, who is the ONLY WAY to God.

C. Bad Circumstances- It will take spiritual understanding and to be aware of the warfare here. As you may know, circumstances at the roots are effects of choices. For example: A drug addict mother has a baby with a variety of diseases and disabilities. Later this baby grows up bitter with his/her situations. This child may become bitter and hateful, "wondering why me?" The hate and bitterness in the child's life may cause him/her to neglect God, resulting in missing of God's blessings and peace that him/her would most definitely receive. This is just an example! Remember, God is not limited to our situations, he can fix everything. Also Satan hates us all. He will most definitely use bad situations and circumstances to turn us away from God and have us miss eternal life with God in bliss. Don't judge God by what happens in this life. This life is but a blink in the span of Eternity. God has Eternity to make things up--and he does!

Unforgiving- The action we take on when we do not forgive. When we choose not to forgive someone, we give the devil and/or his demons power to take control of our emotions. A standby witness to the unforgiving person will see a change. A usually nice and easy-going person when done wrong against may become loud, rude, and spiteful to his/her offender. Jesus commands us to love one another. How can we truly love one another when we choose not to forgive? Satan will fuel this (unforgiving act) until it becomes hate. Remember: Not forgiving hinders your blessings. Whether it is for healing, financial, spiritual, etc. if you choose to not forgive you will most certainly not see blessings.

Worldly Desires- Ah. The nerve of this guy. The share gull of Lucifer, using our own inventions and advances against us. While man has truly come a long way with inventions, the fact still remains. At the core, man's heart is evil. Some inventions were truly made for the wrong reasons, with the wrong purpose in mind. Worldly Desires has a variety of ways to influence us. Some of which are:

A. Media- With the invention and evolution of TV, Movies, Music, the world has been influenced to act and live a certain way. It may prove foolish to forget that Lucifer was indeed a musician. Why would he not use music to badly influence people? I am sure you can discern that he has and is.

B. Sex- While sex is a given to us from God to enjoy with our life partners. It has become excepted around the world to be used vicariously with whom ever we choose. Fornication and Adultery is accepted. This is a sin. The wages of sin is death! Rom. 6:23

C. Money- while money itself is not a sin, the love of money is. Sadly many people throughout the world would do just about anything to gain money. This includes killing, stealing, gamble, etc. They say money buys power and respect, why can't people see that this is all vanity. You can't take it with you when you die. Why not instead invest in your heavenly home?

Anger- Sometimes in such an attack, we may choose not to forgive someone for a wrong that has been done to us. This is a commonly used yet crafty attack. This attack can lead to previously mentioned effects.

Reverse Psychological Attack- Satan hates us all! Sometimes in this advance way of attacking, he will use someone that he got using any one of the previously mentioned attacks to offend us. This will cause a reaction in which we may retaliate. Now he (Satan) has two birds with one stone, so to speak. Sneaky huh?

Possession- In this advance form of spiritual attacking, one is being inhabited by a demon or perhaps Satan himself. The person will be unaware of his actions and his doings. This attack will occur in an unbeliever, in contrast with oppression, which can happen to everyone.

Oppression- another advance form of spiritual attacks. It is the opposite of possession. In possession the attack is coming from within, and oppression the attack is outward. Oppression attacks may come in the form of worries, anxieties, and depression. God can fix this!

These are some of ways spiritual attacks may come about. There are yet other ways Satan wages wars. Remember Powers and Principalities? Satan, the god of this world government has his people. Yes, and as our leaders. Presidents, Kings, Government officials, etc. Powers and Principalities work through Personalities. So be of awareness. There are many people out in the world; whether they know it or not, work for Satan. Look and Discern, People! Love Not This World. It is very easy to get wrapped into worldly things, the worries, pressures, desires, etc. All this will eventually lead us away from God. Right now it is imperative that we stay with God. We have power to win against Satan, in fact we have already won. Jesus won when he died on the cross. Except Jesus as Lord and be saved. As the Holy Spirit reveals to me, I now reveal to you. I believe that if we are able to see and understand the spiritual battle that goes on for each and every one of our souls. We will then be able to win the war. Praise and Glory be to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen!

In Christ,

Conscience

Please dont kick me off the site! I was looking for one of my old documents to post, when I saw this one. I forgot that it has so much Chrisitan over tones, and that it asks you to make Jesus the Lord and Savior of your life. Please note, I am not trying to convert anyone. Believe me when I tell you that I KNOW I cannot! My hopes is that you would just pray and read the Bible to see if its claims is true. Again, had I read this document before I posted it, I might not have posted it. So, please bare with me mods. Though I personally believe what I wrote is true, I dont intend to litter this site with my beliefs. You know?

Interesting topic. Why don't we get into the spiritual warfare part (we already know about the human foible part)...;)

It is interesting to me that the characteristics of Satan are very human; pride, gluttony, anger etc. Temptation, the first sin perhaps? If all of these traits are human I venture to say that we are the enemy and that the satan spoke of is from within, not outside of us.
These defects of character collectively throughout the world create an anti-christ atmosphere. Let's face it, noone has seen satan in physical form. He has only been perceived and sensed by people. But aren't these perceptions all inner perceptions? Aren't all the prophets and teachers and priests etc human also? Their perception of satan was also something they received from the inside.

When I am at peace with myself I do not fear and preoccupy myself with evil thoughts or ideas. When I am off balance spiritually; gluttonous, envious, excessively angry and not forgiving, the perception of evil forces around me that are keeping me from God's grace can become more intense.

I think also that the churches dwell on satan in an unhealthy way. It's gotten to the point now that it seems people want the end day prophecies to be fulfilled. Satan is given as much power as God. If they aren't fulfilled they think their faith has been in vain. I honestly believe that many christians want this peroid of extreme tribulation to pass where those that didn't believe as they did will see the truth and be cast into the flames. What if I said the end days will be a day of transformation of the soul. What if the flames that shall rise around us will be flames of sanctification, a burning away of the old nature into something new and beautiful? What if all will be saved and go to heaven? If that is unsetteling to you than I question the state of your soul. We should not want any to perish and see all go to live in eternity with the Holy Creator.

Exactly! As the Bible says, the battle is in our minds, and is waged for our souls. The enemy does infact attack from within!

When I am at peace with myself I do not fear and preoccupy myself with evil thoughts or ideas. When I am off balance spiritually; gluttonous, envious, excessively angry and not forgiving, the perception of evil forces around me that are keeping me from God's grace can become more intense.

I see what you're saying, but my own belief is what the Bible says - If you're not in Jesus, you're with the god of this world, Satan. I liken this to the movie, "the matrix." In this movie, the world lived believing what they knew to be a noramal life. It wasnt until they found out the truth (that they were slaves, and hid from truth), did they wake up to the Matrix' lies. This is the way the Bible paints the picture. It says that men are blined Satan, and when they meet the truth (Jesus), there eyes will be open, to really know truth.

I think also that the churches dwell on satan in an unhealthy way. It's gotten to the point now that it seems people want the end day prophecies to be fulfilled.

LOL! I for one want Jesus to come back. Whats wrong with that? If he is really the truth, and God of this world, and has a better way for us to live, why wouldnt I want him to come back and do it?

Satan is given as much power as God.

I dont know any Christians that do this. But, if they did, I'd quickly correct them!

We should not want any to perish and see all go to live in eternity with the Holy Creator.

I couldnt agree more! This by the way, is what God said in the Bible. He wants NONE to die, but ALL to come to the Savior that they may be saved from sins.

yes. i think you did a nice job pulling this together Conscience. I feel it is important to know who the enemy is & how he operates. that is how we recognize his ways in the world & cannot be decieved by him.

bitterness, strife, enmity, jealosy...so many things to be aware of that can pop out of nowhere from within & from many different angles.

we did a nice study on the full armor of God here at CR awhile back & how the enemy operates. everything you have mentioned in this lesson is true and through Jesus & his blood we have been made more than conquerers & the victory has been won with Jesus on our side.

Thanks Bandit! And you're right, with Jesus, we have been made more than conquerers!!

Nice Matrix analogy, but I'm a little concerned with the above statement. The "god of this world" is Satan? Sorry, but I do not believe Satan is a god, of this world or any other. My God is the only God in my belief system. I think it is very dangerous to think Satan rules this world, because then we allow him to do just that.

If, on the other hand, we believe that God rules this world (and indeed all the universe), then we see that people are creating Satan (in Christian theology, the enemy of God). God's creation is still beautiful and under his rule- just look at all nature- it is only we who pervert God's order. I believe as Didymus does, that Satan is us. That does not preclude me from believing that it is possible that spirit entities can also be evil, but with God we are given power over them and our own evils within us. Because I believe it is humanity who is being enemies of God, it is also up to us to turn toward God and cast Satan into the fire- destroying our demons within us and sanctifying our souls. As long as we believe that Satan is some great power outside of ourselves, we give up some of our own spiritual power and responsibility.

I did like the detailed discussion of various tricks of Satan, though. It works whether you think Satan is an external being or an internal nature.

Well, I guess we can agree to disagree here. I personally believe that the Bible is the True word of God, and it says that Satan is the "god of this world." What this means is that Satan blinds us from the truth. Again, the truth is Jesus, and the message that he brings - that he alone is the way to God - Repent, and Trust in him. Satan blinds this truth from us in a number of ways. But, when we're blinded, we follow other ways, and believe other truths. In essence, the Bible paints the picture that if we're not in Jesus, we're not in truth. Futhermore, if we're not in Jesus, we're used by the one that blinds people, even if we realize it or not.

Again, this is my own beliefs. I could in fact be wrong!!

Where does the Bible say that Satan is a god? To the best of my knowledge, the Bible never says Satan is a god.

Would that not make our beliefs like Zoroastrianism, which professes a duality between a good god and an evil god?

And if we believed Satan was a god, would that not make us polytheists (believing in more than one god)? Remember- polytheists do not necessarily worship all the gods they have. They are polytheists simply because they believe in more than one god. As I understand it, Christians are monotheists, believing in only one God.

I realize that you do not understand what Im saying. As I said, as does the Bible, when the Bible says that Satan is the "god of this world" it is not saying that he has ultimate authority. It is conveying the idea that Satan himself rules over the unbelieving world in a specific way. Those that are in Christ, are free from his power, as we are in the world, but not of it.

By the way, thanks for teaching me about zoroastrainism, I didnt know about it before. And, just to let you know, Im not one of those dudes. God is above anyone and anything. Satan is so far under God, that its not even worth mentioning. I should also add that Satan is also under those that are in Christ, because greater is he who is in us, than he who is in the world.

No, just as Satan is known as the devil, and "devil" means little god. That is all.

"No, just as Satan is known as the devil, and "devil" means little god. That is all."

Oh..OK. Well, demons are also known as gods by people who dont know what the bible says.

Thank you all. I still am struggling with this, because it is still polytheistic to think of Satan as a god, even a little god, or a god under another God's authority. There exist pantheons among polytheists who have such heirarchical arrangements, and I'm operating simply off the text-book definitions of these terms. It seems very problematic to me that Christians are monotheists and yet also polytheists in this sense. I have some intuitive readings of scripture that reconcile this problem for me, but it is still present in Christianity in general.

I think it is partially an issue of Satan, as was meant by the Torah, as opposed to Satan as mainstream Christians think of him today. The Satan in the Torah was not a fallen angel. He was an angel of God that tested people's moral fabric, just as we see occur in the gospels when he tests Christ (and fails to get Christ to yield to him). The Satan of mainstream Christian theology is elevated to some sort of "little god" status as the Devil, which I'm sorry to say, smacks of Zoroastrianism to me (and to many religious studies scholars and historians). As Christianity is an outgrowth of Judaism, we should see the same fundamental concepts of where evil comes from, who Satan is, etc., should we not? Otherwise, it seems that it is undermining the original scriptures (those we have compiled into the OT and are the Torah). This is why I think that Satan, as he appears as the messenger of God who tempts us and tests us, is probably more accurate, and is either an actual angel or a personification of our internal nature of temptation. Without this, we could not learn righteous action and to lean on God to resist evil (wrong, wickedness, and error). We would cease to be human and be as the rest of nature- instinctively praising and glorifying God without free choice.

Oh..OK. Well, demons are also known as gods by people who dont know what the bible says.
Actually, many people cross-culturally do recognize that demons (by definition, malicious or evil spirit entities) exist, but non-Christians do not necessarily worship them or think of them as gods. Generally, they are just thought of as we think of them- as evil spiritual entities that are harmful toward people. It is varied how people deal with them and how they think about them in relation to their concepts of god(s).

Satan as god, not!

I don't recall the Bible ever saying that Satan is god of this world and conscience has not produced scripture to back this up. I do recall the Bible referring to Satan as prince of this world, or ruler of this world.

Fine. Ignore what the Bible says. Satan is the Devil, and the Devil is a little god...

I don't concern myself with minoins. I am concerned with the chief players. God, Man, Devil. All else is gravy. Really...nothing else seems to matter. Doe's it?
