Take that hand back before you get burnt...the issue is blatant racism and racist thinking, out of the pot and into the fire, now that takes care of it all without your little illuminati heat element protectorate.

While reading thru it has some merit, in some instances, at some point in time for some people, I can see why it became cannon fodder and not cannonized.

I am very confused, now. Maybe it is time to let this thread be closed or something. I did start it, so I guess I can ask that it be closed if need be. Maybe it wasn't a very good idea to begin with, but I don't know why. Truly.

The term is "a Pot calling a kettle, black". There is nothing racist about it. It is a term denoting an obviously hypocritical perspective by one group to another, while they first group is as guilty as the accused, for the same or similar behavior.

Thomas was pointing this out, and 17th presented an obvious observation, namely no matter what type of kettle or pot we consider ourselves the function is basically the same.

In otherwords, there is no real room to talk or point fingers at others, since we do the same things we accuse the others of.

Well, that was kind of what I got out of it, and Thomas and I were in agreement about that. But in light of wil's warning, and some other posts by 17th around the boards, I thought maybe there was some kind of hidden meaning of which I am not aware.

So, thanks--sorry if I misundertood, 17th, wil, Thomas--anyone on this thread or reading.

I have a very difficult time with racism, and if a red flag goes up, I want to know why. Guess there is no need, after all, to close the thread, but right now I think I'll not post on it for a while until I can better ascertain what has actually happened.

Again, my apologies to anyone I may have offended.

Would you mind clearing this up for me by explaining what your post was getting at? You and I have had some wonderful conversations before, and so I feel like there is just some kind of misunderstanding here?

For your sake and mine (and Thomas's and wil's, maybe?), will you please expound?

Sorry, for delayed postings...

My main meaning behind my post was for two purposes...

1. Someone stated "talk about pots and kettles" So... I literally... Talked about pots and kettles as a small joke?

2. Also sometimes I try to state some obvious statement.... But -try- to make it seem inspiring.... Then to sit back and observe how others take it as I am offering something meaningful. You get some good answers... As we have seen.

But being totally cereal. The kettle calling the pot black or the other way round is in no way racist. It is saying "You are a hypocrite." Nothing more nothing less....

So, maybe it is that any of us (or our forebears) who say "I have the first and only way to salvation (for example, in Christ), but do not have the Love to consider the possibility that the other is saved, really should not be pointing fingers at one another, but at themselves?

That's what I thought.

And I have written some stuff before that has made people wonder--so I can relate. As I think you know, my sense of humor is rather strange at times. I don't mean to do it most of the time, but it has been misunderstood at critical moments.

Is the phrase 'the pot calling the kettle black' racist, no. But in this politically correct world, I have actually heard objection to it, more than once.

So with Thomas's reference without the ending, and then our angel's little joke, with a point. I proceeded to continue the joke and respond with a point.

But in my usual incomplete manner of writing, making the errant assumption that everyone can keep up with what is going on in my head, it appears I not only confused the whole thing but also touched some nerves. I also have issues with racism....and political correctness.

So again to be clear, I was not indicating that anyone or anything was racist, just that the saying is currently being demonized.

and as to the Didache, in reading it while it has some salient points and has some value it also contains enough problematic statements which the powers that be saw to not be fit for inclusion.

(my mind just went someplace where I can't write what I wish to say, as the joke contains waaaaay to much bite, so I hope you aren't reading it now, and those that are can either throw darts or smirk while saying, 'Wil, that's awful)

The term isn't racist as you say... I have never seen it that way so I would still use this regardless of people taking offense... If someone takes offense to something that isn't intended to be offensive is that my problem? Or is it the offended parties problem? It's theirs... not mine. :) as you state "the worlds becoming politically correct." In my language means... The worlds bending, twisting, flipping over backwards to try and make everything "correct"..... lol. Indeed... Correct... taking away peoples opinions in public eye.... The world has been walking and feeding for ages we don't need nappies, breast feeding and to be carried. ;\
 
I think that political correctness does get in the way sometimes--but then again so does disregard for the emotions of others.
