Acts of God?

As is every day we are blessed with a breath :)
Every day an adventure
Every meal a feast
Every paycheck a fortune
Every night a prayer for peace

And the dawn tells us that God will allow life to go on for one more day...

Q:
But you are right, about the people not being destroyed
If I might interject about the original topic...
I was responding to mee's citation of a quote from Luke, which stated that the people had no warning of what was coming (contrary to the version you came up with) and were *all* destroyed (contrary to what turns out to be the facts). This passage is in error, indicating either that Jesus never said it (it is possible that the gospel writers elaborate sometimes) or that Jesus did not have perfect information (he was only human, after all).

No, what it means is different people wrote things as they saw them. That is all it means. The story itself is the same Bob. The moral of the story is the same. The results of the situation are the same.

Now you can nit pic till the cows come home, but it won't change a thing. The story is true (as far as two cities being devistated by fire, and never to be rebuilt), the telling of the story is true (though told by two different people hundreds of years apart), and the morals of the story are true, today as they were yesterday.

Well said (I think). Could you pass the Crisco please? Chris, every once in awhile you start to expand upon yourself...this is one of those times. Who do you think you are putting in their place? Christians? Hardly. Irritating folk, is that your intention?

This is not a democracy Chris. And your predjudice is showing up loud and clear...and it is not enlightened.

Before you try to slam me, try re-reading what you posted...then we'll talk.

Q

Huh?

I wasn't trying to be cryptic, Josh. I participate on a number of forums. One JW who posts regularly is more than you usually get. We have several Muslims and a couple of Jews who you can actually dialog with. To me that's a huge bonus. I think we're really fortunate to have these people here.

Christians will always dialog. It goes along with the Great Commission. They'll argue furiously, and that's great, but having these non-Christians participating here is really the icing on the cake for me.

I'm not trying to slam anyone, Josh. We made peace a while ago and I intend to keep that peace. Plus, I admire you for the restraint you've shown of late. You've turned the other cheek a number of times just lately, and you have my respect for that.

Chris

Tell me what you think I was trying to say, Josh. I have a big blind spot when it comes to understanding how I come off to others. People find me arrogant. I mean, you're not the only one. But I don't see it, so maybe you can help me out.

Chris

Arrogant!! No way. I dont mind telling you what I think. I think you to be level headed and rational and put forward, to me at least, posts that make me stop and think. I find I rarely have to reply to you as what you share seems to come already complete. You are smart, honest in your posting and I have never seen you come close to attempting to savage anyone. You can sometimes be a bit morose but after your recent loss of your brother and our friend that is only to be expected. Dont let Q rattle you... he's like that lion in the 20th Century Fox Intro, big roar but is wearing false teeth and has no bite ,(sorry but you are a big pussy cat really Q), :p

Tao :)

That's a buddy for you! Thanks Tao! Really, thanks.:)

All I was trying to say to you was that I agree that the JW's and other groups are cultish and goofy, but they're also interesting in the same way that Ubangi tribesmen with bones in their noses are interesting. Take it for what it's worth.

Hey Chris

If you were arrogant I would have told you by now :p:p:D

It's okay buddy we all think Christians are cultish and goofy ;)

Seriously though, religion is one of the hardest things to discuss without disagreement, even among those of the same faith. We all really believe we have it right (that is why we believe what we do) but as long as we can disagree with respect then the world continues to turn.

I still maintain that when the Day of Judgement comes there are going to be quite a few billion people looking sheepish and saying OOPS. Let us try to be loving to each other so we are not among them.

Salaam my friends

"The story itself is the same Bob. The moral of the story is the same. The results of the situation are the same."
Not the same at all. Bulwer-Lytton wrote a version of the story of Pompeii in which it was destroyed because it was such a supremely wicked city-- that's totally different from what I believe to be the truth, that the people there were no better and no worse than in Naples or Milan or any other town that didn't get destroyed that day. In Pompeii, the truth is that hardly anybody escaped-- a version of the story in which almost everybody got out (or all the innocent children got out, or whatever) would be as much a distortion as the reverse in the Sdom case.
The true moral of the story is that natural disasters can happen any time and they are not in our control, having nothing to do with our behavior. That is the opposite of the moral Mee wanted to draw. I think Jesus understood the point: "Do you really think that those seventeen, on whom the tower collapsed in Silwam [a neighborhood in Jerusalem], were more wicked than anybody else in the city?"

not sure why you are saying that verse is in error ,it goes along with the rest of the bible .
and he did not hold back from punishing an ancient world, but kept Noah, a preacher of righteousness, safe with seven others when he brought a deluge upon a world of ungodly people; 6 and by reducing the cities Sod′om and Go·mor′rah to ashes he condemned them, setting a pattern for UNGODLY PERSONS of things to come; 7 and he delivered righteous Lot, who was greatly distressed by the indulgence of the law-defying people in loose conduct— 8 for that righteous man by what he saw and heard while dwelling among them from day to day was tormenting his righteous soul by reason of their lawless deeds— 9 Jehovah knows how to deliver people of godly devotion out of trial, but to reserve UNRIGHTEOUS PEOPLE for the day of judgment to be CUT-OFF 10 especially, however, those who go on after flesh with the desire to defile [it] and who look down on lordship.(2 peter 2 5-10)

But on the day that Lot came out of Sod′om it rained fire and sulphur from heaven and destroyed them all. 30 The same way it will be on that day when the Son of man is to be revealed.LUKE 17;29-30

For sure :) I do not come here to talk to myself but to share opinions. Most folk do sort of opine their own and I value that. Mee may not but occasionally he reveals there is a person buried deep under that watchtower just itching to be free... its worth putting up with the C+P's for these rare glimpses. Perhaps even his chosen name here is a clue to his struggle... maybe on another forum it is Meee...and another its Meeee. A struggle for self if ever I saw one !! :)

What do you mean, you lost your brother??? Not the BMC out of Maine...?

Maybe...but I have really sharp dentures, and use "denturecreme" to keep 'em in place...;)

My brother Mark, who you may remember as Prober, died suddenly of a heart attack on Father's Day.

Chris

I did not know. But then I wasn't around much at the time. I am sorry for your loss Chris. He accepted Christ. He was wise in his posts, and gentle in spirit. He made me think, just like you.

Josh

edit: I think he left you a clue about life Chris: "Oh. Didn't know it was an art.

I just pray and ask for G^d to show me what I'm supposed to know. Then it's not just a book. I really believe it takes both parts - the word and the Word."

Another act of God will be the earthly resurrection.
Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment. Acts 5 28;29

the judgement spoken of here is not for how a person acted before they died, but they will be Judged on how they act AFTER their resurrection . the resurrection is an act of God , and it is love in action . some people may have done bad things before they died but its good to know that love of God gives people the chance to put themselves inline with God and go on to live in a paradise earth. the ones who did good things will be resurrected to life straight away because they would have already put themselves inline with God . so even if we die we have still got everlasting life held out to us .

Does the Bible teach that God is behind the natural disasters we see today? Not at all!

..................Nahum 1:2-8 ..Yea, ok...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The LORD is a jealous God, filled with vengeance and wrath. He takes revenge on all who oppose him and furiously destroys his enemies! The LORD is slow to get angry, but his power is great, and he never lets the guilty go unpunished. He displays his power in the whirlwind and the storm. The billowing clouds are the dust beneath his feet. At his command the oceans and rivers dry up, the lush pastures of Bashan and Carmel fade, and the green forests of Lebanon wilt. In his presence the mountains quake, and the hills melt away; the earth trembles, and its people are destroyed. Who can stand before his fierce anger? Who can survive his burning fury? His rage blazes forth like fire, and the mountains crumble to dust in his presence. The LORD is good[wtf are you on about? lol]. When trouble comes, he is a strong refuge. And he knows everyone who trusts in him. But he sweeps away his enemies in an overwhelming flood. He pursues his foes into the darkness of night
