This photo is from 1957. Would like to learn if it appears to be a Catholic or Jewish baptism from the Priest's attire.

When I clicked the picture, I saw the name "SyriaAncestry2" which would make me think Syrian Orthodox, but like Thomas says Orthodox priests most usually have beards, there might be exceptions, but beards would be the default. But I think there exists a Syriac Catholic tradition, and I wonder if that would be the identity.

You clicked on the picture? That's cheating!

I did wonder at the ancestry of the couple ... but never assumed, because my Irish dad, once he sports a tan, could pass for N African/Mediterranean. On one occasion at a train station a man came up and started talking in Italian. Dad said he didn't speak, etc., and the man was utterly surprised, he'd just assumed dad was a fellow-countryman from looking at him.

HANG ON!!!

Just put 'Syrian Christian baptism' in a search-engine of choice, and looked at pics, and there are a few more than I expected of unbearded Syrian-Christian clergy.

I'm guessing this is family, @georgeingraham?

I think @TheLightWithin has pinned it down.

Yes, Thomas those are my grandparents. I never knew anything of my Syrian ancestry and have taken an interest in learning more.

I think you may be on to something regarding "Syrian Christian baptism". I think also TheLightWithin could be correct about Syriac Catholic.

I appreciate both of you chiming in!
