The Two Witnesses Came and Went Thousands of Years Ago

For those that have been told that the Two Witnesses mentioned in the Book of Revelation will appear one day, I have some bad news. The Bible teaches that the Two Witnesses came and went long ago. Let us take a peek at a relevant verse:

Revelation 11:3 - And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.

Most folks interpret the days literally, as in three and a half years. What they have failed to understand is that this is a rare occasion in the Bible where a day may not be literal. Daniel's seventy weeks for example, is interpreted by many, if not most scholars as 'weeks of years'. In other words, they use something called the day/year principle. Thus, seventy weeks of days turns into seventy weeks of years.

Since the Two Witnesses verses are part of Daniel's seventy weeks, we must exegete and interpret them using the same day/year principle. Thus, 1260 days become 1260 years. Yes, that is how long they prophesied!

Using the 'late date' of the Exodus, i.e., roughly 1260 years before Jesus was born, we discover that the Two Witnesses fit perfectly into that timeline. Do we see this in Scripture? Indeed:

Matthew 11:13 - For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.

Beginning with Moses and ending with John the Baptist, the Two Witnesses did their thing. Obviously, the Two Witnesses are not two specific individuals who lived for 1260 years, but rather they are sort of like job titles for many individuals who occupied the position over said 1260 years.

Even the 'three and a half days' turn into three and a half years:

Revelation 11:9 - And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.

This was about the time of John's death and the beginning of the ministry of Jesus.

So, whenever someone claims to be one of the Two Witnesses, you know they are a false prophet from the get-go.
