I am planing to go offline

I quite understand wanting to quit social media, and also trying to get away from YouTube addiction because there's such a lot of rubbish to wade through to find anything worthwhile. Discussion forums can also be addictive and repetitive. And sometimes quite unkind.

I don't subscribe to Amazon prime or Netflix or any other online streaming service. And I don't play video games.

But I could not do without email for ordinary communication for business and stuff, and also internet banking. I have family all over the world and WhatsApp is a brilliant way to keep in touch -- instant and free communication with anyone, anywhere in the world. To me that's a beneficial facet of the 21st Century.

Mosly my dislike of AI and negativity online.
Yes AI is so misused, it is very sad and annoying. There is no boundaries of virtues and morals guiding its use.

Fully understand your desire ro be free of the Web. Yet it is an amazing and wonderful thing if used with virtue and morals in mind. The world is at our fingertips and it can be used productively.

Moderation in all things.

Regards Tony

I am an extrovert trapped in an introvert's life.

The internet gives me an opportunity to talk to other people.

It can't totally replace what I'm missing, but it's sure better than nothing.

I suspect that most of what I do on the Internet is a symptom of not having any social life offline, with only one person to spend time with doing things we both like doing.

The addiction is the worst part for me. It consumes me, and takes too much away from the rest of my life and creates serious problems. Periodically I go cold turkey, sometimes for a few montsh, but I always come back.

I'm curious about the AI part. Is that about people posting things from AI? Or are you using one, and don't like what it does to you? I have a long list of complaints about what mine does to me.
It is about not wanting to take part in it, i am avoiding AI as much I can. And i want to live the "old" way without digital "help"

I understand. To me the only way to actually live like that would be to create an off-grid life away from society?. But I wish you luck. You might be missed here ... :)

Offline i have my wife and she is all I need in my life. I am not anti social but so few people seem to truly care about life. I am in the most happy part of my life and my wife agree that internet takes to much of our time. And she too dislike AI.
What chat GPT and other AI companies want has to take part in controlling human brings with robots and make us lazy. Not a life for us :)

But you know I find it easier to google information than to have to go to a physical library to look it up? Nowadays one can go to a library and use a computer there, I suppose.

If I want something I just google and check a website for price and then order online, and it comes to my door? I believe there are benefits to internet. Drawbacks too, obviously. Social media and streaming addiction and AI slop ...

I understand most people see to do things as easy as possible, I am not seeking an easy way of life, but a life in the moment, and even analog lifestyle do take longer time, that is a calmer way of life in my view.

I should get rid of TV. I hardly watch TV and could do without but I watch YouTube on the TV app and in spite of YouT being so irritating with the way it channels me into echo chambers, there is quite a lot of useful material too. I do learn from YouT. I think YouT has worked hard to control and notify the AI content.

Otherwise quitting TV takes me a month or so of getting used to being without it, and after that it’s just normal. And then if there’s a TV going in a pub or somewhere I can’t take my eyes off it -- even the ads, lol.
