Erotica

Dear Ian,

Bahai Faith is a new religion compared to Islam. I remember from the history that in the early life of Bab, the founder of Bahai Faith, a famous babi female named Tahire Ghoratolain, took the scarf off and went to the Bahaullah's (Bahai Faith Prophete) private room. Too many intresting stories have been raised since this event. I would like to mention that the love and happiness is part of our daily life as a Bahai female.

Alluhu Abaha,
Simin

I read about that! But didn't realise she went into his private room after. Do you think it was a sexually liberating act? And not rebelling against female suppression because these are 2 different things. I think that would be considered heretical by all major world religions.

Greetings!

Sorry: this is simply not accurate!

What Tahireh did was to remove her veil and enter the presence of a large gathering of Babi men, to the great consternation of most of them (one was so upset by this that he immediately committed suicide). She did this to herald the break from the era of Islam.

This event is recounted is some detail in The Dawn-Breakers, specifically in the chapter "The Conference of Badasht," page 294. I commend it to your for further information.

(This book is available online at www.bahai-library.org among other places.)

BruceDLimber a lady comes to this forum and only gives 1 post without fully introducing herself and she tells us of something you are not aware of! I quite believe her. Maybe there is more as to why the Babi committed suicide? Maybe he realised something about what he got himself into after he seen her walking into the Prophets room. After all taking off the veil is not as bad sin as taking your life?

Postmaster, the story of Tahireh is well-known to Baha'is as well as thoroughly documented (complete with footnotes) in the book I mentioned, The Dawn-Breakers.

I have been a Baha'i for over 34 1/2 years and have NEVER heard of anything even remotely similar to the content of that recent post, which I can only characterize as pure speculation! And given in addition the fact that there are individuals around who want to discredit the Baha'i Faith for their own reasons, I see no reason to give that account any increased credence.

Given Baha'u'llah's high moral standards (something admitted by even His enemies) as well as the fact that He awarded Qarrat'u'Ayn the title Tahireh ("the Pure"), the accusatory post strikes me as simply too far from reality to deserve serious consideration.

YMMV, as always, but meaning no offense, I urge you to investigate this more before drawing so hasty--and arguably unwarranted--a conclusion....

Peace,

Bruce

perhaps a quote like this could be illuminating:

"Lauded be Thy name, O Thou Who art the Goal of my desire! I swear by Thy glory! How great is my wish to attain unto a detachment so complete that were there to appear before me those countenances which are hid within the chambers of chastity, and the beauty of which Thou didst veil from the eyes of the entire creation, and whose faces Thou didst sanctify from the sight of all beings, and were they to unveil themselves in all the glory of the splendors of Thine incomparable beauty, I would refuse to look upon them, and would behold them solely for the purpose of discerning the mysteries of Thy handiwork, which have perplexed the minds of such as have drawn nigh unto Thee, and awed the souls of all them that have recognized Thee. I would, by Thy power and Thy might, soar to such heights that nothing whatsoever would have the power to keep me back from the manifold evidences of Thy transcendent dominion, nor would any earthly scheme shut me out from the manifestations of Thy Divine holiness." (paragraph 20 of this link)

Anything that causes you to forget God is an error.
