How does it work?

Re: How dose it work?

If you find out, let me know....

More seriously, nobody's quite sure - and some of the ideas vary depending on the style of Magick.... whether petitioning deity, controlling spirits, or just raising energy - there are many different approaches and methods. I rather like William Keith's approach in his book "The Science of the Craft" - he postulates that magic and quantum physics are basically the same thing.

Re: How dose it work?

This depends largely on how you define magick in the first place. This is frequently debated and there are many different (often conflicting) hypotheses about what magick is and how it might or might not work.

Personally I think a large part of what people call magick is psychological work which involves overcoming our own imposed blocks, or in other cases figuring out how to achieve a goal by subtle manipulation of others. In other instances though magick might involve the direction of some sort of energy (life-force, magickal energies, who knows?) to effect changes in the physical realm.

A well-respected practicing magickian, Frater U D, has put together a good overview of how magick might be explained in his essay, "Models of Magic." You can find it on the web in different places including at this website.

So how dose real magic or Magick work?
Get initiated and do the rituals with which you please your envoys who will act your desires on the one who is to loose or win temper, fortune, family, origin, health, life, a limb or both or forth, paralysis of a finger or the body, an accident or progeny, the eyes or ears and all you can think of to hurt or heal. Send those who will protect your entry to that place you can never leave. All good or bad you will will be your final prize for the times.

I mostly agree with the descriptions and explanations listed here. It is my belief though that the most important ingredient is...well...er....."belief." ;)

There are lots of ways to practice magick. Becoming involved in an initiatory witchcraft system that focusses on working with spirits is certainly one way but it is hardly the only way.

There are dozens if not hundreds of books published on how to do magick, with perhaps as many theories and explanations of how and why it might work. The information is out there and not hard to find if one wants to look for it.

http://www.psipog.net/ is another interesting take on magick -- what it might be and how it might work. It comes from more of a psychic phenomena worldview than a supernatural or spiritual worldview. Check out the Q&A section, and the Articles section, for lots of material to provoke thought on the topic.
