"And when the days of the Pentecost were accomplished, they were all together in one place: And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a mighty wind coming, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them parted tongues as it were of fire, and it sat upon every one of them: And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they began to speak with divers tongues, according as the Holy Ghost gave them to speak."
Acts 2:1-4

Today is Pentecost Sunday in the Catholic Liturgical Cycle, it is the 'Christmas Day' of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit, 'the shy one' of the Trinity, is rarely mentioned here in our theological/philosophical discussions, but on behalf of us all, if you will, I shall offer up this traditional prayer, and in the 'spirit of the Spirit' offer it for all of us, regardless of vocation:

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Thy faithful and enkindle in them the fire of Thy love.
V. Send forth Thy Spirit and they shall be created.
R. And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth.

Let us pray.
O God, Who didst instruct the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant us in the same Spirit to be truly wise, and ever to rejoice in His consolation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
