I actually joined this site almost a year ago. I even posted an introduction way back then. But then, as so often happens, real life got in the way and I never came back. Since then a lot has happened and my life has changed in a lot of ways. So I figured I may as well reintroduce myself.

My name is Carl, I'm happily partnered to a wonderful man, I'm an avid bookworm, and I love to cook. I've recently moved back to my home state of Texas, though still far from my hometown, and am now able to be surrounded by a loving family again.

In the last year I have reevaluated my religious beliefs and found myself veering into atheism. However I quickly found that atheism can be quite rife with utter negativity, and so I began looking for something more affirming. That's when I stumbled upon Unitarian Universalism. It led me to pantheism as the closest fit for my personal beliefs. I may not believe in anything supernatural, but I do feel awe, and a deep reverence when I study the world around me. So now, even though there are no UU congregations near me I do consider myself a UU as well as a pantheist.

In any case I look forward to being a part of this community. An active one this time. I'll see you guys around the forums.

Welcome, or welcome back as the case may be! Look forward to your input so don't be shy.

It is unfortunate that there is so much negativity connected with atheism. It is not inherently a negative view of life. Atheists always seem to have to be trying to prove something though. Or disprove, I guess is the more correct phrase. Which makes them combative. It doesn't need to be that way.

Howdy GothicLitGeek, welcome back. Looking forward to hearing from you. You know there was a thread a while back with a link to a site to help prople figure out what catagory their beliefs fit into. I think it was called, Belief-o-matic. Anyway, here's the thread link if you want to check it out, http://www.interfaith.org/community/threads/17063/

Hope you find it helpful.

Unitarian Universalists appear to me to be a wonderful interfaith society....discussing religions and beliefs systems or non belief more as philosophy and working together toward political and environmental activism... I've attended a number of their services in my travels (when I can't find a Unity, I look for New Thought, and when I can't find New Thought I go to a UU service). Also when I take belief-net...UU is high on my list...(I believe due to my combination of thought)

Just took belief-net quiz. 100% Secular Humanist, 95% Unitarian Universalist, whoa -- 81% Liberal Quaker...

Oops. I seem to have difficulty posting to the correct thread...oh well. I'll work on it.
