A crime on the high seas or A multi billion dollar industry....??

vs. Privateers (gov't sanctioned piracy)

today the Chinese Navy act as privateers (pirates) against pirates, eg they get a percentage of the booty when they capture a pirate ship.

Now before we get to self righteous about how evil it all is, Somalians, Indonesians, Yemenis, Tomals with very little other opportunity for a livelihood have not only taken on one of the oldest traditions it was also something sanctioned in the past by such entities as the English Empire and the American Revolutionaries....Odds are without privateers the English Emprire would have been as large or in power as long....and without the thousands of privateers odds are the US would not have won the revolution (nor had the money to start a new country...that booty supplied many an entrepreneur after the war)

thoughts?

I remember seeing something about this on current tv. Pirates can take an oil ship, for example, and it would be worth millions of dollars. Considering the poor conditions pirates come from on the islands, it is really complicated.

Modern Day Pirates // Current

Complicated it is.
Victims of the mega-corps and gov'ts making bad choices which they see as their only choices (perhaps due to influence from "others") in an attempt to make an income and get some publicity, but it is all orchestrated by others to obtain precedent to obtain policy.
More crap on the high seas.
