This is somewhat obscure I suppose, but something I've often thought about. Does God have a sense of humor? At one time in my life I found religious humor quite troubling. Over the years however, I've come to realize that it all depends on intent. If the intention of the joke is to mock something or someone, it's most likely a sign of contempt. Whereas a joke intended to lift the spirit or lighten the mood is more a sign of admiration. The question is, does God see it that way? Personally, I view God as all encompassing and have no trouble believing he would have a sense of humor. In fact, given some of the antics us humans engage in, I bet sometimes God looks down at us and just cracks up!

NJ, I think I know what you mean, jokes being good or bad is all depending on what the person's intention is... I think, when the faithful make a joke about religions or God, it'll most likely be lighthearted...

Of course, God has a great sense of humor. I tend to believe all good qualities humans have are from God's sharing His characteristics with us. I am sure He gave us the sense of humor, as you said, to lift our spirits. :)

I heard the comedian Stephen Colbert (he's a devout Catholic) once saying, something like, "If God didn't have a sense of humor, I'd be in big trouble... that's why I teach at Sunday school to make amends 'just in case'..." and I thought it was pretty funny.

Oh, I did a quick search and found the videos below, which I LOL-ed.

(Upon opening the link, an advertisement video on the right to the feature video starts... so make sure to turn that off first...)

(This audio is rather poor quality, very echo-y, but the audience is sure cracking up...)

The question itself is anthropomorphizing G!d. This is the G!d I rejected as a youth...the old white guy in the sky with passive agressive bipolar issues. While today I must admit my most prevalent "feeling" of G!d is a cocoon of protection nestled up lap, snuggled up in the bosum of GranG!dma... I don't buy G!d has humor...but G!d is humor.

G!d doesn't love...G!d is love....

G!d is spirit, principle, allness.... not an entity, but infused in all (omnipresent), not Knowing, but knowledge (omniscient)

this is me...your mileage may vary

The deity featured in the Bible doesn't seem to have a sense of humour unless it enjoys laughing at the predicaments humans get into.

If you are into a creator god, this creature just might be a display of humor:

Platypus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Welcome back around....great to see you posting, hope all is well.

yes the platypus, pouches, lemurs, even Ayers Rock, the Galapagos, fluffy planets, gravity still confounds us....

But Job, and smiting, and much of the biblical texts wouldn't indicate such.

I am into the principle of creation, scientific laws of probability that govern our universe....not anyone making mud people and rib people...
