    This is a short question.
Religion has not been a great choice for me .
It has been problematic and a source of confusion
    for me.
Spirituality has been a liberator, but I have my doubts that
    it is for me.
I still need structure and guidance that religion offers, but without
the strict control that it have on a person mind.

What if someone you know is confuse and is seeking answers?

To be a person of good character it is important to study modern psychology. Human nature is very well mapped out. There are many different ways of being. Each of us learns at an early age certain behaviors will get us what we want. The problem with life is many times what has worked in the past does not work in the present. Many times how we behaved in carved into the stone of our character. In order to evolve we have to be open to new ways of thinking.

Here is one book in modern psychology that will help you map out your character weaknesses and turn them in your greatest character strengths:

It's really amazing how many people are stuck in what is considered adolescent or immature ways of being. Why people have excessive pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath and sloth is well understood. Why people choose to exploit each other is well understood. A religion can only be as good as the character of the people practicing it. This is why studying modern psychology is so important.

What I like about the referenced book is it uses a lot characters in movies to demonstrate its points. I watch a lot of movies.
