    I'm beginning to understand, thanks!

I'm reminded a little bit of acsetic practices, found in many traditions. Nobody needs to sleep in a soft bed, or eat three meals a day. A mat on the floor and no food after noontime, for example, is a Buddhist ascetic practice. And no sex, of course.

Edit: I'm not saying this is what you do.

FYI, Baha'is are not supposed to be ascetic, I just happen to be more like a Buddhist because I believe that sacrifice for God is good for my soul. ;)

Most Baha'is get on my case when I say these things about sex, not that they are self-indulgent, but they are not ascetic either.

There is one Buddhist on the other forum I post on who has a partner but does not have sex, and everyone there thinks we are both strange.
Yes, I know, but I am lucky to get one meal a day because I have no time to eat. I have a nice bed but that is about it for the house.

    More power to ya.

I don't need ice cream either, but I like it.

We also don't need religion or belief in G!d, many folks live a full and healthy life without either. All of us could if we wished.

If our ancestors never believed in or worshipped G!d, we'd be here, just like every other species on the planet. Also just like every other species, if our ancestors didn't have sex....we wouldn't be here.

Calcutta street beggars? The beautitudes: Blessed are the poor, the meek, the humble.

Someone who doesn't need God, can never know that God is real. But humility is required. Perhaps a person has to lose a lot to need God?

I agree, sex is physical and not necessarily spiritual, although within the realm of possibilities. I was hooked on pornography for nearly 40 years; God set me free from my addiction because it was a distraction in my relationship to God.

My Christian belief is difficult to comprehend without knowing God through Christ. However, I do not know if a relationship to God is possible through means other than Christianity, I was taught through Christ is the only way to God the Father

Of course it is. God meets us where we are and guides us along from there, imo. But first we have to ask. God's angels will not interfere with our free will, imo.

Yeah maybe, it hasn't been proven to me yet.

I cannot agree or disagree based on lack of knowledge and experience. I am skeptical of anything outside of my belief until choosing otherwise

Perhaps sometimes God may help me by first making me abandon a lot of material and mental/emotional encumberance, until I am left with only God? Free of material weight.

I cannot take my treasured grand piano through the narrow door. I cannt take it on the aeroplane to freedom. Just a amall bag. Letting go can be quite painful. But I have to ask God to help me. I'll only do that when I realize my own powerlessness?

Perhaps all the stuff I had to let go of will be there waiting for me on the other side of the door, if I want to pick it up and encumber myself again.

It's the hourglass: decrease and then expansion. The horus and the nexus. Again and again. Until perhaps knowing that is key to freedom?

A loop is what I'm in when I get nowhere, though I try.
Like a bee against a window I'll be stuck there till I die.
There is no true horizon where the ocean meets the sky.

I have to climb out of my loop: to leave it I must rise.
Then from beyond its limits I may look back in surprise, to see my loop was never there at all
    So, what am I outside?

    Lol ...

I ask to know God and that He is with me, I pray for unrestricted love to all that is, I pray for opportunities of service to all, for wisdom and discernment. I grew up Baptist, limited to a singular concept of God and religion. Sadly, limitations remain by modern circumstances

God or mammon? Because Solomon asked for wisdom instead of wealth, he was given both in great measure? Every religion says material desire is an encumberance. It can be mental stuff. It's a choice? I have to be prepared to give it to God? Its the essence of what sacrifice really means, imo?
I know, I blather on, as if I know anything. Sometimes I just react to a comment with my own opinion, that's all. And that's enough of my opinion for now, lol ...

I usually go to church on Sunday morning at 10.30 am. I nearly always go. But I walked a long way yesterday so I was tired and this morning I only woke up about 10.15am. Too late for church.

As I was boiling the kettle for tea there was a big noise from my boiler, and I found it had started spewing water -- really pouring out water. I switched it off and isolated the water supply and phoned the mechanic.

I spent the rest of the morning drying out the tools and stuff that got soaked. No bad damage.

I got to it within a few seconds because I was home. If I had gone to church, as I nearly always do, my whole house would have been flooded by the time I got back. It would have been a big disaster.

I ask God to guide me all the time. I know my guardian angel was looking after me today.

    EDIT
No hot water for a few days, until the mechanic gets the parts, lol

Moments as this are God moments. I'm glad it worked out for you. If the event had gone differently God would have revealed Himself differently because circumstances are different.

What are your church services like? My church My church opens with organ music then announcements and During the first hymn the choir made their way to the front of the church the hymn finishes and the pastor leads the church in the Lord's Prayer.

Next is praises and concerns for prayer, then the sermon, the offering and final hymn. My pastor was a former missionary in Venezuela.

Hi RJM are accepting private conversations?
