The risk of AI

As man did eh? He sure aint done good with his power, killed millions, extincted thousands, abused billions, screwed our planet environmentally...and the weather...
LOL, I thought the Church did that? 🤣

Just for balance, Hinton is not against AI per se:
"We’re going to see radical new drugs. We are going to get much better cancer treatment than the present," he said. AI will help doctors comb through and correlate the vast amounts of data produced by MRI and CT scans.

That's just one aspect of one field. He's all for AI, he's just all for unchecked AI.

Someone once observed – I thought it was Plato, but I can't find the source – that if the inhabitant of Mount Olympus were truly Gods, then why do they evidence the worst and most demeaning human vices? Spite, lust, vengeance, jealousy, etc., etc.

A similar observation springs to mind – it seems that, in spite of the fact they are silicon-based systems, AI seems already to show a tendency to copy the lesser aspects of their carbon-based developers.
Like with any new technology, humans can take it too far.
For me,we will have to wait and see. However,I don't think it wise to disregard the potential positives in the field.

I will say the numerous AI videos on Pinterest and YT now are aggravating. Some are so well done.
IMO, There needs to be a disclaimer to identify just the AI aspect of images and videos.

I wouldn't worry, they've already started rolling back AI to make it dumber.

As someone who grew up in the 70s, this smacks of Droidism :(
