Lord Krishna's birth anniversary today.

Though neither Nanda nor his wife Yashoda who raised Krishna, knew that Krishna is not their son. Vasudev was Nanda's friend. When destiny permitted Vasudeva to take his son out of jail where he was born (present day Mathura, where a mosque stands now), he took Krishna to his friends house (Nandagram, across the raging Yamuna river at the middle of night) where he placed Krishna in place of a new-born girl to Yashoda (Otherwise, Kamsa would have tried to kill Krishna in the morning as he had done with 7 of Krishna's siblings). The girl was actually an avatra of Yogamaya. She flew out of Kamsa's hands warning him that his killer has already been born and is safe somewhere.
