The passage about the fountains of the deep and the windows of the heavens?

Can someone please explain this to me. So, did the water from the flood at the time of Noah, come from two places?

Love the Grey:eek:

Hi Grey, my JPS describes this event in 7.11 not 6.11. With recent discussion about source criticism I was curious whether this ch./verse was perhaps attributed to two different sources, but my Richard Elliott Friedman book lists this verse as attributed to P. So I guess, as you said, P indicated the water came from two places.

G!D Divided the primordial waters in two, that's above and below, see genesis 1. think of the universe as a vast bubble. therefore the fountains of heaven would be above i'd expect.

Hmmm, thanks for that BB. This is just a small part that I wonder about. I mean, why do that? But i guess, its something i will always wonder about.

In the bible, rain comes from above, which is clearly identified as flowing in heaven.
11 In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, on the seventeenth day of the second month—on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the heavens were opened. 12 And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights (Gen 7:11).
The location of heaven is clearly above the sky.
9 Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel went up 10 and saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something like a pavement made of sapphire, [b] clear as the sky itself. 11 But God did not raise his hand against these leaders of the Israelites; they saw God, and they ate and drank (Exodus 24: 9-11).
Lapis Lazuli means blue, so it would read like this: "under his feet was something like a pavement made of blue, clear as the sky itself." Sounds like the sky is the floor of heaven. The gates of heaven open to let the rain come down upon the earth.
16 When he thunders, the waters in the heavens roar;
he makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth.
He sends lightning with the rain
and brings out the wind from his storehouses (Jeremiah 51:16).
Again, Jeremiah shares the common belief that rain comes from heaven.

and once again the bible is proven true by science
