I am planing to go offline

The background noise has a lot to do with it. I hardly watch TV in fact, a bit of snooker and cricket when it’s on. I don’t really follow much football.

The thing for me is YouTube, which I watch on the TV, sitting in an armchair and scrolling with the remote, looking for something to watch, and thinking to myself “Why am I DOING this?”

I just can’t stand it anymore, sitting there scrolling You Tube and the rubbish and, as you say, the background noise. It felt like it was a wall in my life, and now a door has opened.

I do learn from You Tube, but overall it is just a stupid addiction that leaves me feeling drained, not knowing what else to do. So I have to keep scrolling, looking for something to watch. It’s just stupid.

I know children do learn from TV, not only school stuff, but when my daughter was young I saw her learning about the world and people from TV.

To get it right out of the house. I'll see how it goes and probably give it away
Sounds like you did the right thing!

We took our TV down... No one ever used it. There's an altar for Thoth in that spot now.

It does throw people off, though. "Where's the TV?" There's kind of a cultural understanding that everyone watches TV(and the screens on the average one get bigger and bigger). When it's discovered you don't have one of these, you're kind of looked at like a science experiment.
I hardly ever watch push TV these days, but I do like my old movies still. I never got the YouTube scrolling thing. I have a very low tolerance for attention seekers and self promoters and YouTube is full of them, for one thing.
Same. My husband eats it up, though. TikTok, rather than YouTube, is his life.

I don't know how many videos he put in my face yesterday "look at this guy play this song!" seemed to be most of them. While his fascination with it isn't so much a problem in itself, I don't see the attraction in watching some stranger play a drum solo from someone else's song in their living room. Great to those who do, but I totally don't get it.

For me no games, no sports, no music (can't hear). These days seeing excellent geological videos on you tube. Wish my younger grandson was interested in them. Otherwise the Hussainpore Iranian nomadic family videos. A very close-nit happy family (Dora).

Hang in there Aup ...

The loss of hearing must affect you greatly. Even with earphones, can't you hear media?
Yes, to some extent. I cannot follow TV or media discussions which may have helped me to form my opinions. I have to rely only on written word. I miss that I cannot enjoy music, I used to be a music-lover. I cannot participate fully in family discussions. But I manage.
Today, I have stepped into my 85th year. :D
If you wanted to watch sports, are there closed caps for the announcers?
If I am watching a game, why would I require comments? Indians are interested in the game of cricket. Only the shortest format (T-20) lasts for some three hours, and is watchable. The longer formats last for some 9 hours (One day) and what we term as "Tests", can extend over five full days. I would not want to spend that much time to watch it. Generally I look at the statistics for the matches (who did what?). The other sport that I am interested in is wrestling, but the Indian events are not televised (no moolah for TV companies). :D

Birthday greetings, Aup. My birthday was September 14th. I'm 12 years your junior

I like test cricket. I'm not fond of T20. There's very little cricket on TV here in the UK. When the English team plays tests at home, they show a daily 1hr summary of the match, otherwise its all on pay-to-view. We have just beaten Pakistan 3-0.

Lots of football on TV here.

Thanks, friends. God-speed to you, RJM. (Am I using the words correctly?)

Lots of cricket on TV here, including Indian Premier League (10 teams) where top national and international players play and are paid fabulously.
We are not good at Football.
We are having a T-20 series here, Afghanistan hosting India in India. :D
They are a strong team but have never been successful against India.
Kohli has played for Royal Challengers, Bengaluru, and Dhoni for Chennai Super Kings, since the inception of IPL in 2008. It is big business.

England have a good bowling lineup, imo. Ben Stokes has resigned and Joe Root as captain. The next five day men's test is against South Africa in December, played in South Africa. It should be good 🏏
