Hello !

Im a muslim and i started to read the bible to see what do christians see in it, as we all know i have no doubt that the bible came from God , coes it is a command from God for us to beleave in him and his books befour the Qu'Ran, anyway at first i was wondering wich bible to choose... i mean i heard that there was allot of versions , so i got some versions of the bible , then i read them and i found some verses that anoy me , coes i know God would never say such things , and i dont want to say the bible is currupted thats why i searched for a forum , coes i need an explanation .

Note: some of the bible verses contain pornagraphy.

"How beautiful your sandaled feet, O prince's daughter! Your graceful legs are like jewels, the work of a craftsman's hands. Your navel is a rounded goblet that never lacks blended wine. Your waist is a mound of wheat encircled by lilies. Your breasts are like two fawns, twins of a gazelle. Your neck is like an ivory tower. Your eyes are the pools of Heshbon by the gate of Bath Rabbi.
.......
I said 'I will climb the palm tree; I will take hold of its fruit.' May your breasts be like the clusters of the vine, the fragrance of your breath like apples, and your mouth like the best wine.
(The NIV Bible, Song of Songs 7:1-4, 8-9)

i have more of verses that contain pornagrophy but i wont post anymore of it , and if this is too much please edit but dont delete the topic , here is another non-porn verse but still has something that anoyes me :

"All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect, so that God's name and our teaching may not be slandered. (From the NIV Bible, 1 Timothy 6:1)"

"Let all who are under the yoke of slavery regard their masters as worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be defamed. (From the RSV Bible, 1 Timothy 6:1)"

i got allot more of these verses but i only want the verses i gave to be explained,

Thank you.

interesting.

i dont see any porn that has been suggested, in the songs of solomon. could it be in the mind of the reader instead?

could it be that it is a letter from 'Paul' (pbuh) to Timothy (pbuh) that bothers others?

Welcome to CR! ;)

I think I can help you here.

Song of Songs was written to describe two relationships, in healthy report (ideal). The first is the relationship between a man and his mate (bridegroom and bride). If every man looked upon his own wife in this way, there would be no pornography, no adultery, no divorce. All he needs would be right there before him in one woman...his mate. Song of songs clearly states that of all the women of the world, the author's mate is everything to him, and none other matter in this light.

In addition, the author is not describing his mate to others, he is writing a letter of Love, desire, admiration, anticipation and satisfaction to his mate (the specific person of is desires). He sets the letter up for any man to substitute his name and the name of his mate for that of the author's and his mate.

It is in short a love letter, or love Epic from one man to one (and only one) woman. They are lovers and bonded. Please do not ignore the response that the woman has for her man (as she swoons for him, searches for him, waits for him with bated breath).

The other (more cryptic), but none the less real relationship being described here, is that of God's (Jesus)(the bridegroom), love for his "bride", the people of God. And also how the people of God should feel about Him.

This is a simple but profound verse, that has many layers to it, but the overwhelming message is to do the absolute best one is able to do for the Glory of God, in the current status and condition one finds themself. Just because one accepts Jesus as savior, does not automatically change the conditions of one's life, only the conditions of one's salvation. One must still carry out their station in life for the Glory of God. If one is a slave (for example), then be the best, most loyal of servants to one's master. In this one might bear witness to the master, the Glory of God, by one's actions, and in affect, influence the Master and all his household to accept salvation by the Lord.

I hope this has helped you in understanding these passages in a better light.

Ok, sorry ;)

1st verse. It is a bunch of love letters, between one man and his wife. It is also a bunch of love letters between God and mankind.

2nd verse. God wants people who accept His salvation to do the best they can at what position they are in, to show the world His Glory. If you are a welder, be the best welder. If you are a police man, be the best police man. If you are a slave, be the best and most loyal slave. If you are a doctor, be the best doctor. Everything you do, do for the honor and glory of God.

Slavery was a fact at the time the Bible was written. Some new Christians at the time thought that since they were Christians, they should no longer be slaves. God said, "What ever position you have in life, do your best at it".

Does this help?

No. God never forbid slavery, but encourages people to do the best they can, where they are at.

If you are a farmer, be the best farmer. If you are an engineer, be the best engineer. If you are a servant, be the best servant. If you are a slave, be the best slave.

It means, do not become dis-satisfied with your position in life, simply because you are saved in Jesus. It means be the best you can be, as you are, and give that "best" to God, for His glory.

The idea is to trust God to place us in positions, that He can work His will through us. The idea is to trust God to move us where we belong, as He wills it, and then, to do our best and give thanks to God for it.

AbdAl, we are slaves to this life, today. We are slaves to our jobs, money, our creditors, our ambitions. God says to trust Him, and He will release us from our "bondage". The story of the slaves was an extreme example.

If you read the New Testament about the Centurian and Jesus, you will find that the Centurian too was a servant as well as a master. Slave and Master, all in one person.

He gave orders he expected to be obeyed, and carried out orders as he was given them. He approached Jesus with this absolute understanding. If Jesus gave an order, it would be obeyed instantly. He asked Jesus to give an order to heal his servant (slave), whom he loved dearly. Jesus wondered at the absolute faith the centurian had, and gave the order. The Centurian's servant was immediately healed, even before the Centurian returned home. The servants of the Centurian met him on the road home, and told him his favorite servant was healed. The Centurian stunned them all, by saying "I know, The Lord said so."

Does this make sense?

Sorry i took long , i think these are the onse:

Numbers 31:17-18 "Now kill all the boys [innocent kids]. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man."

"Now therefore, kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that has known a man by sleeping with him.(Num 31:17).

i think thse are the onse.

Exodus 23:12 "Six days do your work, but on the seventh day do not work, so that your ox and your donkey may rest and the slave born in your household, and the alien as well, may be refreshed."

Let us look at Exodus 21:28 "If a bull gores a man or a woman to death, the bull must be stoned to death, and its meat must not be eaten. But the owner of the bull will not be held responsible."

Let us also look at Exodus 21:29 "If, however, the bull has had the habit of goring and the owner has been warned but has not kept it penned up and it kills a man or woman, the bull must be stoned and the owner also must be put to death."

Let us look at Exodus 21:31 "This law also applies if the bull gores a son or daughter."

Now, let us look at this verse Exodus 21:32 "If the bull gores a male or female slave, the owner must pay thirty shekels of silver to the master of the slave, and the bull must be stoned. (but not to death)"

Ill post the one i had in mind i dont think its there but still answr them :)

As these are specifically Old Testament verses, I believe the best person or persons to answer these accurately would be Bananaha Brain, or Dauer. They are are resident experts in the "Torah". I have an understanding of these requirements, but not the appropriate explanation for you. Would you mind if I asked them to answer?

Hello.

I don't think I'm the Dauer you wanted, but I have answered your call. <trumpets play>

The first issue, what seems likely is that the young ladies, the girls, were being taken as spoils of war and the older women were assumed to have been defiled. It's possible there's another reason, but as far as the original meaning of the text I'd rather call a spade a spade.

Second issue, it seems to be slavery in quran vs tanach (OT) so I'll touch that. Quran was written at a later time and some of its positions are thus more progressive. But both the Quran and Tanach should, imnsho, be understood on one hand in the context of the society that created them.

Third, not sure what the issue is.

Shalom u'vracha.

Yes thank you for your answer ,

I got another verse :

"`How can you say, "We [the Jews] are wise, for we have the law of the LORD," when actually the lying pen of the scribes has handled it falsely?' (From the NIV Bible, Jeremiah 8:8)"

"How can you say, 'We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us'? But, behold, the false pen of the scribes has made it into a lie. (From the RSV Bible, Jeremiah 8:8)"

so , does that mean that the bible is corrupted ?

One of the Bible's 10 basic Pillars, the ten commandments, says: "Thou shalt not kill. (Exodus 20:13)." Yet, we see GOD Almighty Commanding His servants to not only kill the enemy's men, but also the innocent children and non-virgin women who have not done anything to anyone:

1 Samuel 15:2-4
2 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.
3 Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.
4 And Saul gathered the people together, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.

"Now kill all the boys [innocent kids]. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man.
(Numbers 31:17-18)"
