what happens when a muslem goes to heaven?

Hi Clearamericanboy,

There are basically two views amongst the lslamic Scholars [and the general Muslim laymen adhere to iether one of those two views] about what Paradise is like. The majority of Scholars hold the view that the description which we have of paradise given in the Quran and Sunnah, is litterally true, but the reality of it will be much better and that we have been only given a 'sample' or 'indication' of what pleasures await us there, for example, the description of there being extremely beutifull maidens with dark lusterous eyes, and rivers of clean wine, sweet milk and honey, and the description of houses made of gold and silver bricks, etc, etc, are thought to be litterally true, but they'll be much more beutifull, pleasurable and wonderous than the same things of earth.

The other view is that, all these things are just mentioned by Allah as a metaphor to give us an indication that Paradise will be a place of immense pleasure and peace, and the reality of it is like something we cannot even comprehend in the slightest.

The difference of opinion results from the following hadtih and verse:

Hadeeth No. 3025 Bukhari- Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said, “Allah said, “I have prepared for My Pious slaves things which have never been seen by an eye, or heard by an ear, or imagined by a human being.” If you wish, you can recite this Verse from the Holy Quran:–”No soul knows what is kept hidden for them, of joy as a reward for what they used to do.” (32.17)

Some Scholars say that the above hadith and verse shows that the description mentioned in the Quran and hadiths are metophorical, as Allah said that in Paradise are things which man has never imagined, but the majority of Scholars interpret that as Allah saying that in addition to all the things which Allah and His Messnger [saw] has described to us about paradise, there will also be things which never has crossed the mind of man in the slightest.

Here are some Quranic verses and a few hadiths [sayings attributed to the prophet [saw] or his Sunnah [tradition], describing paradise:

Quran:

Surah: 2

25. But give glad tidings to those who believe and work righteousness that their portion is Gardens beneath which rivers flow. Every time they are fed with fruits therefrom they say: "Why this is what we were fed with before" for they are given things in similitude; and they have therein companions (pure and holy); and they abide therein (for ever).

133. Be quick in the race for forgiveness from your Lord and for a garden whose width is that (of the whole) of the heavens and of the earth prepared for the righteous.

Surah: 3.

15. Say: shall I give you glad tidings of things far better than those? For the righteous are Gardens in nearness to their Lord with rivers flowing beneath; Therein is their eternal home; with spouses purified and the good pleasure of Allah, for in Allah's sight are (all) His servants.

Surah: 4.

57. But those who believe and do deeds of righteousness We shall soon admit to gardens with rivers flowing beneath their eternal home: therein shall they have companions pure and holy: We shall admit them to shades cool and ever deepening.

Surah: 6.

43. And We shall remove from their hearts any lurking sense of injury; beneath them will be rivers flowing; and they shall say: "Praise be to Allah Who hath guided us to this (felicity): never could we have found guidance had it not been for the guidance of Allah: indeed it was the truth that the apostles of our Lord brought unto us." And they Shall hear the cry: "Behold! the garden before you! Ye have been made its inheritors for your deeds (of righteousness)."

44. The companions of the garden will call out to the companions of the fire: "We have indeed found the promises of our Lord to us true: have you also found your Lord's promises true?" They shall say "yes"; but a crier shall proclaim between them: "the curse of Allah is on the wrong- doers;

Surah: 9.

72. Allah hath promised to believers men and women gardens under which rivers flow to dwell therein and beautiful mansions in gardens of everlasting bliss. But the greatest bliss in the Good Pleasure of Allah: that is the supreme felicity.

Surah: 13.

23. Gardens of perpetual bliss: they shall enter there as well as the righteous among their fathers their spouses and their offspring: and angels shall enter unto them from every gate (with the salutation):

35. The parable of the Garden which the righteous are promised! beneath if flow rivers: perpetual is the enjoyment thereof and the shade therein: such is the End of the Righteous; and the End of Unbelievers is the Fire.

Surah: 14.

23. But those who believe and work righteousness will be admitted to Gardens beneath which rivers flow to dwell therein for aye with the leave of their Lord: their greeting therein will be: "Peace!"

Surah: 15.

45. The righteous (will be) amid Gardens and fountains (of clear-flowing water).
46. (Their greeting will be): "Enter ye here in Peace and Security."
47. And We shall remove from their hearts any lurking sense of injury: (they will be) brothers (joyfully) facing each other on thrones (of dignity).
48. There no sense of fatigue shall touch them nor shall they (ever) be asked to leave.

Surah: 16.
31. Gardens of Eternity which they will enter: beneath them flow (pleasant) rivers: they will have therein all that they wish: thus doth Allah reward the righteous

Surah: 18.

31. For them will be Gardens of Eternity; beneath them rivers will flow; they will be adorned therein with bracelets of gold and they will wear green garments of fine silk and heavy brocade; they will recline therein on raised thrones. How good the recompense! How beautiful a couch to recline on!

Surah: 22.

14. Verily Allah will admit those who believe and work
righteous deeds to Gardens beneath which rivers flow: for Allah carries out all that He plans.

23. Allah will admit those who believe and work righteous deeds to Gardens beneath which rivers flow: they shall be adorned therein with bracelets of gold and pearls; and their garments there will be of silk.

Surah: 25.

15. Say: "Is that best or the eternal Garden promised to the righteous? For them that is a reward as well as a goal (of attainment).
16. "For them there will be therein all that they wish for: they will dwell (there) for aye: a promise to be prayed for from thy Lord."

Surah 35.

33. Gardens of Eternity will they enter: therein will they be adorned with bracelets of Gold and pearls; And their garments there will be of silk.
34. And they will say:"Praise be to Allah, who has removed from us (all) sorrow: for our Lord is indeed Oft-Forgiving Reasy to appreciate (service):
35. "Who has, out of His bounty, settled us in a home that will last: no toil Nor sense of wearness shall touch us therein."

Surah: 37.

40. But the sincere (and devoted) servants of Allah

50. Then they will turn to one another and question one another.
51. One of them will start the talk and say: "I had an intimate companion (on the earth)

53. " `When we die and become dust and bones shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'"
54. (A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?"
55. He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire.
56. He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition!
57. "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord I should certainly have been among those brought (there)!
58. "Is it (the case) that we shall not die
59. "Except our first death and that we shall not be punished?"
60. Verily this is the supreme achievement!
61. For the like of this let all strive who wish to strive.

Surah: 38.

49. This is a Message (of admonition): and verily, For the righteous, is a beautiful place of (final) return,-
50. Gardens of eternity, whose doors will (ever) be open to them;
51. Therein will they recline (at ease); therein can they call (at pleasure) for fruit in abundance,ad (delicious) drink;

Surah: 39.

73. And those who feared their Lord will be led to the Garden in crowds: until behold they arrive there; its gates will be opened: and its Keepers will say: "Peace be upon you! Well have ye done! Enter ye here to dwell therein."
74. They will say: "Praise be to Allah Who has truly fulfilled His promise to us and has given us (this) land in heritage: we can dwell in the Garden as we will: how excellent a reward for those who work (righteousness)!"
75. And thou wilt see the angels surrounding the Throne (Divine) on all sides saying Glory and Praise to their Lord. The Decision between them (at Judgment) will be in (perfect) justice. And the cry (on all sides) will be "Praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds!"

Surah: 41.

30. In the case of those who say "Our Lord is Allah" and further stand straight and steadfast the angels descend on them (from time to time): "Fear ye not!" (they suggest) "nor grieve! but receive the Glad Tidings of the Garden (of Bliss) the which ye were promised!
31. "We are your protectors in this life and in the Hereafter: therein shall ye have all that your souls shall desire; therein shall ye have all that ye ask for!

Surah: 47.

15. (Here is) a Parable of the Garden which the righteous are promised: in it are rivers of water incorruptible: rivers of milk of which the taste never changes; rivers of wine a joy to those who drink; and rivers of honey pure and clear. In it there are for them all kinds of fruits and Grace from their Lord. (Can those in such Bliss) be compared to such as shall dwell for ever in the Fire and be given to drink boiling water so that it cuts up their bowels (to pieces)?

Description of Paradise in the Quran

Hadeeths:

Hadeeth No. 3027 Bukhari- Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said, “The first batch (of people) who will enter Paradise will be (glittering) like a full moon; and those who will enter next will be (glittering) like the brightest star. Their hearts will be as if the heart of a single man, for they will have no enmity amongst themselves, and everyone of them shall have two wives, each of whom will be so beautiful, pure and transparent that the marrow of the bones of their legs will be seen through the flesh. They will be glorifying Allah in the morning and evening, and will never fall ill, and they will neither blow their noses, nor spit. Their utensils will be of gold and silver, and their combs will be of gold, and the fuel used in their centers will be the aloes-wood, and their sweat will smell like musk.”

Hadeeth No. 3032 Bukhari-Narrated Anas bin Malik: The Prophet said, “There is a tree in Paradise (which is so big and huge that) if a rider travels in its shade for one hundred years, he would not be able to cross it.”

Hadeeth No. 3033 Bukhari-Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said “There is a tree in Paradise (which is so big and huge that) a rider could travel in its shade for a hundred years. And if you wish, you can recite:–’In shade long extended..’ (56. 30) and a place in Paradise equal to an arrow bow of one of you, is better than (the whole earth) on which the sun rises and sets.”

Hadeeth No. 3036 Bukhari - Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri: The Prophet said, “The people of Paradise will look at the dwellers of the lofty mansions (i.e. a superior place in Paradise) in the same way as one looks at a brilliant star far away in the East or in the West on the horizon; all that is because of their superiority over one another (in rewards).” On that the people said, “O Allah’s Apostle! Are these lofty mansions for the prophets which nobody else can reach? The Prophet replied,” No! “By Allah in whose Hands my life is, these are for the men who believed in Allah and also believed in the Apostles.”

Hadeeth No. 3024 Bukhari- Narrated ‘Abdullah bin Qais Al-Ashari: The Prophet said, “A tent (in Paradise) is like a hollow pearl which is thirty miles in height and on every corner of the tent the believer will have a family that cannot be seen by the others.” (Narrated Abu Imran in another narration, “(The tent is) sixty miles (in height)”
“…And there is nothing between the people and them looking at their Lord (to Him belongs Might and Majesty) exept for the ‘robe’ of Al Kibriyaa- Granduer and Glory on His countenance in the Garden of ‘Aden.” ( Bukhari and Muslim).

Ubaadah Ibn As Saamit related that the Prophet said ” Paradise has 100 levels. Between each level and the next is the distance of 100 years.”
Ibn Affaan said,”Like the distance between the heavens and the earth, and the Firdaus is the highest of them in degree, and from it the 4 rivers of paradise emerge. And the Throne is above it.So when you ask Allah ask Him for Al Firdaus.”( Ahmed) Also related by At Tirmidhi.

…” are you not pleased that for you is the equivlent of the world and 10 times more” ( this is for the last person to enter paradise. ( Bukhari and Muslim).

Ibn Umar reported from the messenger of Allah SAWS said “The dweller of paradise who is least in ranking will look at a territory that is 2000 years journey vast. He will see it’s furthest point just as he sees it’s nearest point. He will see his Wives and Servants. And the best of the dwellers of Paradise in ranking is one who will look at the Countenance of Allah twice every day.”(Ahmed) Also related by At Tirmidhi.

Abu Hurairah said ” We said “Oh Messenger of Allah, speak to us about Paradise. What is it’s building material?”He SAWS said”A stone of Silver and a stone of Gold, and it’s milaat( cement between the bricks) is musk. It’s pebbles are pearls and rubies, it’s soil is saffron. He who enters it will be in bliss and never will become wretched; he will live forever and will never die. His garment will not wear out and his youth will never fade.”( Ahmed).

By Allah indeed they are swimming on the surface of the ground. It’s 2 sides are pearls, it’s domes are pearls and it’s perfume is ‘Al Adhfar’.’ It was said,” Oh messenger of Allah! What is Al Adhfar?”He SAWS said,”That which is pure.”Related by Abu Bakr Ibn Mirdawai.

Hudhaifa related that the messenger of Allah SAWS said,”Verily in Paradise there are birds that are like Al Bukhaatee(camels with long necks).”Abu Bakr said,” Are they soft Oh Messenger of Allah?”He SAWS said, “The one who eats them is softer than them and you are from those who eat them Oh Abu Bakr.” Related by Al Haakim.

Paradise « Vanquishing Falsehood

so wait, the veiw on paradise, is beautiful women, that sounds like a vary worldly desire, and i dont see how God would include beautiful women in paradise because that would just lead to sin and sin will not be around in heavon, soo it seems like the veiw of paradise might have been tweeked to appeal to worldly desires also directly to men, whare do women fit in to paradise?

and also i was wondering, do you think that the christian religion, and the muslem religion are one in the same, i know that the roots of them are but beyond that there worlds away from each other,............ dont you think?

Hi Amercianboy,

There is nothing wrong with beutifull women in Paradise as Paradise is a place where one can have whatever he/she desires, and it is a place of pleasure, fun, ecstacy, peace and bliss. That is the reward for the righteous who obey God on earth.

Paradise is a place where both women and men will have all that they desire so it's the same in that sense for both the genders.

Some Scholars do say that there could be more than one man in Paradise, but i'm not sure if that will be the case.

Wether that will be the case or not, women and men will be fully content and satisifed for all eternity with their lives in Paradise and never feel bad over anything, so from this point of view, it doesn't really matter if the women will have more than one husband or be restricted to just one, as that will be according to what they will desire and be totally satsified with.

The beutifull women of Paradise is just one bounty of paradise amongst countless...

:)

SubHanAllah!, the Paradise which Allah will grant the believers will indeed be a truly amazing and wonderous place where people will enjoy immensely for all eternity...

Here is some more description of this amazing place:

Each faithfull shall have a tent made from pearl; it's length will be sixty miles. In each corner of the tent will reside his wives in such a fashion that one will not be visible to the other. [Bukhari and Muslim]

There are hundred levels [storeys] in the house of Paradise and each storey is so spacious that it can contain an assembly of all the people of the world

The companions [ra] enquired fom the Prophet of God [saw] "wha material has been used in the building of the house of paradise"? The Prophet [saw] said: "This mansion is built from alternate bricks of gold and silver [i.e, one brick of gold laid on one brick of sliver, etc]; in place of limestone pearls and gems have been used and the earth is made of safron, yellow and sweet smelling. He who enters this mansion will live in peace and comfort and will be immortalised. He will never know death, nor will his dress wear off, nor will his youth ever wither, instead his youth will forever remain in full bloom" [Musnad Ahmed, Tirmdhi]

In Paradise, there are several streams of water and milk that will allways remain fresh, there will be streams of nectars that will be sweet and extremely delicous, there are several streams of pure honey, and there will be many different kind of fruits for the enjoyment of the people of Paradise.

The person who fearing the Day of Judgment, will obey Allmighty God, will deserve Paradise twice over. These two gardens will fruit trees in large numbers, each tree will bear various types of fruits. These gardens will be so large that, walking at moderate speed, a prson will cover it's distance in one hundred years. These gardens shall contain fine houses. There will be two springs in the garden, one called tasnim and the other, salsabil.

The wonder attached to these two streams will be that there water will be freely available in all the houses of paradise and the residents of these houses will be able to make free use of the water in every storey or corner of their homes. THese two gardens will have the following two attributes: they will bear two kinds of fruits, one kind will resemble the wordly fruits and the other will resemble a shape that will be unseen or unheard of before. These people will recline on beds against pillows. The bedcovers will be made of silken cloth and their outer coverings will be made of light. The branches of trees will bend with laden fruits. the fruits will drop into the mouths of people at once, by itself, at their wish.

The people of heaven will be ever mindfull of God morning and evening, and continue to offer praise to God just as inhaling and exhaling of breath is done without effort, they will never fall ill, nor will they urinate, defecate, spit or clean their noses. They will exrete refuse of food that they eat in two ways; by belching and sweating but the smell of their sweat will be like the scent of musk.

The Prophet [saw] observed, "even if a thing of heaven, the size of a finger nail, were to appear in this world it would beutify the whole earth and if a man of heaven should peep into this world and his dress be revealed, the brilliance of his face and dress would outshine the glare of the sun.

[taken from book, the spectacle of death, by Khawaja Muhammad Islam]

so who are these women, then? are they angelic beings or good muslim girls who have gone to heaven? and do muslim women get a set of oiled-down hunks to attend to them? i'm not being funny - i've just always wondered.

The flying horse of Paradise

Hadhrad Ayub Al-Ansari [ra] reports that a desert Arab came to the Prophet [saw] and said: "Oh Prophet of Allah, I am very fond of horses, will there be horses in heaven"?, the replied [saw] said: "If you were sent to paradise, you will be given a horse made of emerald, the horse will have two wings, you will mount the horse and it will fly you to wherever you may wish to go" [Tirmidhi]

Hi banabrain,

These 'hourines' [damsells of Paradise] are part of the bounty of paradise and they are specially made for the men that will enter paradise. They are not the women of earth.

The women of earth that go to Paradise, will be more superior and beutifull to the 'hourines'.

Polygamy is allowed for the men of earth and it is not allowed for the women of earth, as Allah has enjoined a fitting way of life for us according to our roles, nature and bilogical differences, therefore polygamy may not be allowed for women in paradise iether.

I did read a report once suggesting that women could be allowed the enjoyment of multiple males in paradise, but I am not sure wether that will indeed be the case.

As said before, whatever the case maybe, Allah will grant us pleasures according to our desires and needs, and if women dont get more than one husband, then that will be exactly according to their desire.

Some women of earth may desire more than one man [while on earth], but everyone who will enter paradise will have a pure heart and there will be no satan in paradise to influence bad desires in people, so therefore, if women are not allowed more than one man in paradise, then they will be totally satisfied with that and will not feel less satisfied or less pleasure, peace and bliss then their men counterparts.

Here is a link that explains a womens position in Paradise:

IslamonLine.net

Here are some descriptions of the women in Paradise:

If a women of heaven were just to peep towards the earth, all the east and the west wil be illuminated by the light of her beuty and her scent would perfume the air from the east to the west, and her head dress is superior to all the world and it's things.

..The whitness of the eyes of these women shall be the whitest, and the pupils of their eys shall be the darkest, and they shall be wide eyed. Each wife shall be wrapped in seventy gowns. The marrow of their calves will be so delicate and soft that it will be visible through the bones and outer flesh.

The prophet [saw] stated: their will be a function of heaven where houris [women of heaven] will sing in such a melodious voice that such melody will be unheard of by men and these shall be their songs:

We are immortal,
We shall never die,
We are born to enjoy comfort,
hence shall never know hardship,
We are born of good cheer
hence shall never be unhappy
Blessed be the man to whom we belong,
And he is for us [Tirmidhi]

The prophet [saw] mentioned that, "the man in paradise shall rest on seventy pillows, in such a manner that while turning over from one side to the other, his head shall be comforted by several kinds of pillows. In the meantime a woman will appear and slap his shoulders all of a sudden in a captivating manner. The man will look around and see the cheek of that woman is more radiant and claearer than the mirror and the man shall see his reflection in the mirror of her cheek. And such will be the splendour of her dress that the most inferior amongst the pearls of her garments will have such glare that should it ever exist in the wrold it's brilliance will illuminate the earth from the east to the west and then there will be no need for thre sun at all. At this time, this woman shall greet the male inmate of paradise. The man will reciprocate her greetings and inquire: "who art though"? She will answer:

"God Allmigthy, besides other bounties of heaven, has sent this humble one to serve thee. You have allready got your due, and now God has sent me in addition".

this women will be wrapped in seventy garments and the texture of these garments will bo so fine and transparent that her whole body will be as claerly visible to the man as if her whole body was naked. And such will be the delicacy of her body and softness of her skin that the inner flesh of her shanks will be seen through her wrappings. She will wear a precious crown on her head and the most inferior pearl on her crown will emit such glare as to illuminate the universe. [Musnad Ahmed].

Although I dont know the source of this, but I have heard Islamic [Tablighi Jamaat] preachers say that if a woman of paradise spits on one of the ocean of the earth, then the ocean will turn sweeter than honey

The virlity of man in Paradise:

The Prophet [saw] observed that the man who enters paradise would be endowed with such virility that he would be able to cope with seventy tow women. ...the Prophet [saw] said: when man [of paradise] shall be endowed with the sexual powers of a hundred men, how could he not be virle enough to copulate with so many women"? [Tirmidhi]

The people that will enter Paradise will be of young age and will never grow old. They shall have totally hairless bodies [no hair under arm pit, on chest, below navel etc,] The men will be either 30 or 33 years of age. [the same could apply to women as well, but i think I heard once that the age of women in Paradise will be 16 or 17]

Peace :)

ps: In lslamic litterature, we have many aspects of the Paradise described to us, including the description of the hourines, and the state of virility of the man of paradise, as 'sex' is not seen as a shamefull or dirty or evil thing in Islam, as long as it is practiced within boundaries which Allah allows [i.e, between husband and wives]

well, we agree about sex, but i have to say that it all sounds a bit on the speculative side to me. plus, well, kind of teenage. i mean, surely it's a bit of an insult to one's wife to suggest that heaven involves a better reward than her on the intimacy front?

yes, but did any woman ever ask muhammad anything like that?

The men and women used to ask the Prophet [saw] of all kinds of things, and if I come across any hadiths where a women asked the prophet [saw] of a particular detail of paradise, I'll let you know about it inshAllah.

There is one hadith which I know of, where an old woman requested the Prophet [saw] to pray for her that Allah grants her entry into paradise, the prophet [saw] joked with her "“O’ Mother, an old woman cannot enter Paradise.” The old woman started to cry at hearing this and began to leave, then the Prophet said "“Say to the woman that one will not enter in a state of old age, but Allah will make all the women of Paradise young virgins. Allah says, “Lo! We have created them a (new) creation and made them virgins, lovers, equal in age.” (35-37). [Tirmidhi]

Heaven dont involve a better reward than her on the "intimacy front", as the women of heaven [that go there from earth] will be much more beutifull and superior than the hourines of Paradise.

After all, the earthly women of paradise will earn their paradise after much hardship and sacrifice to Allah while on earth, and the hourines will just be created for paradise, so therefore, the women of Paradise will be more beutifull and superior than the hourines of paradise.

If i remember correctly, I think I heard once that the difference between the earthly women of Paradise and the heavenly hourines will be like the difference bettween the sun and the moon, respectively

:)

does mixing sexuality with heaven cause men to do whatever it takes to achieve that reward, and does it cause men to be so preoccupied with it, that it causes suppression and the covering up of women as if they are one big private part?

Hi BlazenFatyz,

I've been a practicing Muslim [not a verry good one though] for over 17 years now..., and I dont think much about the women of Paradise at all, infact when I do think about Paradise, I think about the general aspects of it and not single out the 'women' factor, and since I hardly hear any other practicing muslims talk about the women of Paradise, I presume that they're not obsessed with this factor iether.

Also, Muslims wouldn't think anything 'smutty' concerning the hereafter, as the thinking of the herefater is linked to thinking about God, so out of fear and a reverence of/for God, Muslims keep their thinking about the herafter [paradise, day of Judgement, etc,] as holy and 'clean' as possible, so therfore, concerning the hourines, they may think about what has been narrated to them from the hadiths about them [their beuty, etc] and develop desire for paradise accordingly, but they wouldn't think any explicit sexual things about them....

Thinking about Paradise, does cause desire in the heart to want to attain it, and it does motivate Muslims to live their lives in accordance with Islam [however little or much] but I should think that the Muslims in general think about the general aspects of Paradise and do not just focus on the 'women'.

It certainly does not cause men to be pre-occupied with it, and the Hijab rules for women come from God, and not from men as a result of pre-occupation with the women of paradise.

The Hijab for women is one of the most common sense things to understand about a religion that considers fornication and adultery to be major sins that lead down a terrible road [the road to destruction on earth and hell-fire in the herafter].

Peace :)

As salaam aleykum

I am new to the site so I hope you do not mind me jumping into your discussion. All posts on this thread seem to be from men, so I thought a female Muslim view may add something to the discussion.

If my husband (indeed if all men) get 10 million wives in heaven, I don't care. I do not see it as demeaning to me, good luck to them if that is what they have wished for. If I am good enough to get to heaven, insha'Allah, then I shall have what I wished for (and that is not 10 million husbands :D :D ).

Many non Muslims hear about the Islamic view of heaven and immediately think "huge orgy". This is a total misconception. Imagine the day of judgement has come and you are lucky enough to get into heaven, what would you wish for? At the moment you think you would wish for things to satisfy your human desires but remember that those lucky enough to get to heaven will be completely changed, their body, their mind, their emotions, etc. How could G-d describe to us the unimaginable? Only in terms that humans would understand. So really we have no idea what heaven would be like because Allah has told us that it is unimaginable to the human mind.

Wow, what do I say about your comment "suppression of women and the covering up of women as if they are one big private part?". Firstly, I am not suppressed and secondly I AM one big private part. My body is for my husband only, would you prefer I show it off to all and sundry? No thankyou, this is my choice alone not forced upon me by any man or woman. Perhaps this is not the right thread for this discussion - if you want to talk about it further you can go to my introduce yourself thread and I will happily answer your questions about 'suppressed Muslim women'.

I posted a comment here yesterday but it doesn't show so apologies if you get 2. Also sorry this is such a long post but I feel it is an important subject.

All posts on this thread seem to be from men so I thought a female view may add something to the discussion.

Firstly I would like to comment on BlaznFattyz's comment "causes suppression and the covering up of women as if they are one big private part?". I AM NOT SUPPRESSED. I choose, with no influence from men, to cover my body and my hair. Yes I am one big private part for only my husband to see and enjoy. Why do people outside Islam have such a problem with this? If I chose to walk around all day wearing a ninja turtle outfit people would laugh but they wouldn't be offended, so why do you feel offended that I make the choice to wear hijab?

Where do you get this idea of suppression? Yes some Muslim women are suppressed but not by Islam, it is by cultural practice. Example, in Saudi women are not allowed to drive, this is suppression because there is nothing in the Quran about women not being allowed to ride a donkey (the mode of transport for the time).

Are we suppressed because we cannot have boyfriends and sleep around? Ask any western parents with a teenage daughter if they want or approve of her sleeping around, the answer is largely a resounding no. Ask young men in the west what sort of woman they want to marry, the answer is usually a virgin, even though they want to sleep with half the town before they settle down - ironic isn't it. It was only in my mothers generation that women in the west became free to have numerous partners and it only truly became 'respectable' in my generation.

1400 years ago Islam gave women the right to own property, inheritance, conduct business in her own name, to divorce, etc. Please look up the history of western countries to see when these things came to the west (all within the last 100 years or so). So who has been suppressed?

Now to discuss Jannah (taken from the Hebrew name for the Garden of Eden and shortened in Arabic to mean Garden). For non Muslims, we believe that when we die we will be treated kindly or punished in the grave until the day of judgement, according to our deeds during life. After judgement we will be sent to Jahannam (hell) or allowed to enter Jannah (the original Garden of Eden). Children of all faiths that die will go to Jannah because we do not believe in original sin therefore all children are innocent of sin.

Surely those who believe (Muslims) and those who are Jews and the Sabians and the Christians whoever believes in Allah and the last day and does good-- they shall have no fear nor shall they grieve. Quran 5:69

And whoever does good deeds whether male or female and he (or she) is a believer-- these shall enter the garden, and they shall not be dealt with a jot unjustly. Quran 4:124

Why do non Muslims read about heaven in the Islamic faith and think 'huge orgy'? The realities of Jannah are beyond human understanding or imagination.
So, when we think now (as humans on earth) of the things we would want in paradise we think in human terms (beautiful women/men, gold, chocolate, etc). Allah tells us that humans (in terms of desire, health, age, etc) would be changed on the Day of Judgment. Will we therefore want the same things in the next life? I have no idea, only Allah knows the answer. So what we are actually discussing is something no-one can truly imagine.

Let us assume for a moment we do want the same things in heaven. If my husband (indeed all men) get 10 million wives or concubines in heaven really I don't care. If that is what they wish for themselves, good luck to them but it doesn't make me feel degraded in any way. If I am lucky enough insha'Allah to be allowed into paradise I will get what makes me happy and that certainly will not be 10 million husbands . We will not have the same feelings of jealousy, hatred, etc and Allah will make every inhabitant of Jannah happy. How will He achieve this, I have no idea and I will not even try to guess. All I know is that Allah has promised this and I must therefore believe him, in the same way I cannot prove Allah exists but I must believe He does.

My concern is firstly to try to be a good Muslim and earn a place in Jannah. What comes next I do not know or care, Allah will reward me with happiness and that is all I need to know.

Excuse me, I am not supressed or oppressed or even depressed. Yes I am one big private part that belongs only to my husband - what is the problem with that? If I walk around all day in an andy pandy suit you would laugh but not be offended so why are you offended that I choose not to walk around half dressed? I dress as a Muslimah to serve G-d not to please any man.

As for what rewards men or women get in heaven, better to leave that to G-d. We are taught that we will be 'changed' before entering paradise (ensh'allah I lead a good enough life to deserve to go) our minds, hearts, emotions, age, etc. We are also taught that paradise is beyond anything humans can imagine. So when the Quran teaches us that if we go to heaven we will get our hearts desire - what will that be? Let us do the maths, our minds, hearts and emotions will be changed + we cannot possibly imagine paradise or the life therein = no idea what we will desire when we enter paradise.

Perhaps we should spend our time worrying if we are pleasing G-d rather than what reward we may get?! For me just being in the presense of Allah would be the greatest reward I could ever hope for.

Salaam
